JEE Main Exam Pattern 2020

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has arranged the pattern for the candidates who will be appearing in the JEE Main 2020 examination. The NTA JEE Main consists of two papers, i.e. Paper I and Paper II. Paper I is the threshold for courses including BE/ B.Tech, and Paper II is the threshold for candidates who would like to go for B Arch/ Planning. Candidates, at the time of filling up of JEE Main Application Form, will be able to opt for either of these papers or both. The exam will be conducted both in online mode, i.e. computer-based test and offline, i.e. pen and paper test. Paper, I will be completely online, whereas paper II will be partly online and partly offline.

Exam Pattern for 2020 Exam– A Brief Look

  • For Paper 1, the question paper will be set in 3 sections, i.e. Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
  • Paper 1 will be conducted completely in online mode.
  • Candidates will have the time frame of 3 hours to attempt these sections.
  • There will be 90 questions in total and each section comprises 30 questions each.
  • Candidates can score up to 360 marks in this paper.
  • For Paper 2, the question paper will be set in 3 sections, i.e. Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Drawing Test.
  • Candidates will have the time frame of 3 hours to attempt these sections.
  • Paper 2 will be conducted partly in the online mode and partly in the offline mode.
  • The sections, Mathematics and Aptitude Test, will be conducted online, and the section, drawing test, will be conducted in offline mode.
  • There will be 82 questions in total with 30 questions from Mathematics and 50 questions from general aptitude. The remaining 2 questions will be from the drawing test.
  • All questions, including Paper I and Paper II, will be of objective type multiple choice questions except drawing test section which will be subjective.
  • Questions will be presented with multiple options, there will be only one correct answer and candidates will be required to mark the correct option.

JEE Main 2020 Exam Shifts

A part of the JEE Main 2020 Exam Pattern is the schedule and timings for the exams to be conducted. This information will be helpful for candidates at the time of the examination. Even though JEE Main 2020 official notification regarding the JEE Main 2020 Exam Shifts and timings are yet to be released, we can infer from the JEE Main 2019 Exam Pattern that is being followed. Given below is the schedule for the JEE Main 2020 as per the inference is drawn from the JEE Main 2019.

  • Mode of Examination – Paper I will be a computer-based standardized test, whereas, Paper II will be bifurcated into both online mode and offline mode and online. Aptitude Test and Mathematics section in the Paper II will be an online computer based standardized test and the Drawing section in the Paper II will be a pen and paper based examination.
  • The timing of Examination – JEE Main 2020 is most likely to be conducted in two sessions, i.e. first shift and second shift. The first shift will be from 09:30 hours to 12:30 hours and the second shift will be from 14:30 hours to 17:30 hours.
  • Duration of the Exam – Applicants of the JEE Main 2020 will have to attempt their examination in 3 hours.
  • Entry Timings – Candidates must reach on or before 07:30 hours for the first shift as the entry will be carried out from 07:30 hours to 08:30 hours and the candidates must reach on the venue on or before 12:30 for the second shift as the entry will be carried out from 12:30 hours till 1330 hours.

JEE Main Exam Schedule 2020

National Testing Agency (NTA) will be conducting the JEE Main twice a year. The first session will take place in the month of January and the second session will take place in the month of April. Candidates will have to apply for these sessions during the month of September and February respectively. The complete JEE Main 2020 Dates are as given below.
