Every year Karnataka Examination Authority conducts Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET/ Kar CET). NOTE: For admission to Medical (MBBS), Dental (BDS) and AUYSH courses candidates have to appear for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) – 2018 conducted by CBSE. For admission to Architecture course, candidates have to appear for JEE Main Paper -2 or NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the Council of Architecture. Eligibility Criteria for KCET 2019

Following are the main eligibility criteria for KCET 2019 which includes eligibility requirements related to age, citizenship, qualifying examination, qualifying marks, domicile, subject combination, category etc.

Basic Academic Qualification

Eligibility criteria of KCET 2019 list out the following requirements related to academic qualifications in order to appear for the entrance test:-

Academic Qualification Required for various Professional Courses

The KCET 2019 eligibility criteria are different for the courses of Engineering/Architecture and Pharmacy/Science. Candidates must check their eligibility criteria as per their choice of course below for appearing in the KCET 2019 exam:

  • Qualifying Exam: Candidates have to qualify the 2nd PUC/10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognized board.
  • Subject: Candidates must pass their examination with Mathematics & Physics as a main subject & English as a language subject.
  • Minimum Marks: It is compulsory to score at least 45% marks (40% marks in SC/ST category) in physics and mathematics along with one of the subjects, i.e. Biotechnology/Biology/Electronics/Chemistry/Computer science.
  • candidates who will appear class 12 exam in 2018 can also apply.
  • For architecture course, candidates must have a valid NATA score card.
2.For Pharmacy/Science Courses
  • Qualifying Exam: Candidates have to pass their 2nd PUC/10+2 or equivalent with PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and English as a language subject.
  • Minimum Marks: Candidates have to secure minimum 50% marks (40% in case of SC/ST Category) in PCB group.
  • Candidates who will appear class 12 exam in 2018 can also apply.

Other Eligibility Criteria for Government Quota Seats

The examination authority of KCET, KEA reserves certain seats for the candidates falling in various categories as per the KCET 2019 reservation criteria. The seats are reserved for special categories including SC/ ST/ OBC physically disabled, defence categories. Candidates must have a valid certificate or a document which supports their reservation category. These certificate or document will be required at the time of document verification during the KCET 2019 counselling.

Candidate shall be Eligible for the admission to government quota seats unless he/she is a citizen of India and satisfies any one of the following conditions:-

  • Each conditions specified as a clause and is individually referred by a code. The document to be produced during verification in support of the claim for each of the clauses are also mentioned in the table below against the respective clauses.
  • The candidate who does not satisfy any of the clauses / eligibility criteria given below and the candidate who do not produce the prescribed documents in original form will not be eligible for admission to professional courses under government quota seats.
  • Other than the certificate mentioned in clauses, if a candidate claiming seat under the article 371(j) Hyderabad -Karnataka region reservation, then  candidate should produce eligibility certificate from the concerned assistant commissioner as per the format.

    My son is an OCI card holder and has studied from kindergarten in Bengaluru.
    He is born in Toronto, but parents have shifted to Bangalore.
    Is he eligible to appear for the CET

    • Hi Durga, if you are from Hyderabad-Karnataka Region comprising the districts of Bidar, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal and Bellary which are regarded as the local area, you can write the KCET 2019.

    • For admission to Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Forestry, Sericulture, Agriculture Biotech, Horticulture and Bachelor of Home Science courses, Bachelor of Technology in Food Technology, Dairy Technology, Food Science and Technology, Bachelor of Fishery Science, and Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Marketing and Co‐operation, Bachelor of Technology in Agriculture Engineering courses, candidates who have passed the Q. E. with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology as optional subjects are eligible.Based on the performance of the candidates in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology subjects in both Common Entrance Test and the Qualifying Examination by taking the marks in equal proportions, common rank list will be prepared and published for the above courses.

  6. hi, we are originally from Maharashtra but since last 11 years I am working in Bangalore and own house here since 2014 and my daughter has studied in bangalore for 11 years ( std 2 to std 12). while filling KCET form on website there is one field which asks about native place of father that is me . I have aadhaar card and my passport both of bangalore address so can i write my native place as bangalore in the form? or if I wright has my native place as Maharashtra then will it affect adversely for my daughters eligibility criteria or ranks of cet exam

      You should mention Maharashtra as a native place in the application form and since your daughter has studied for 11 years in the state Karnataka, so, she is eligible to write KCET 2018 Exam.

      No, you cannot write KCET 2018 exam because as per the official brochure of 2018, any candidate wishes to appear for the KCET 2018 should have studied and passed in one or more government or government recognised Institutions in the state of Karnataka for a minimum period of seven years.
