The government of Karnataka has announced the eligibility criteria required to claim for seat reservation. They have also released the notification related to income and caste/ category and Hyderabad – Karnataka Region reservation. Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), the official examination conducting body of Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET/ Kar CET) will release the cut-off for KCET 2018 exam soon after the declaration of result. This article contains information about cut-off marks and seat reservation of KCET 2018.

KCET 2018 Cut Off

There is a minimum rank required for the candidate to crack the KCET 2018 examination and get enrolled in government and private college/ institution for under graduate course. The KCET 2018 cut off will have an opening and closing rank. The opening rank here specifies the starting rank from which the admissions will be accepted and the closing rank here specifies that no further admissions will be accepted after that particular rank. The opening and closing rank form a bracket between which the admissions of the candidates will be accepted. The candidates with ranks that do not fall within this bracket are not entertained for admission under any general circumstances.

The conducting authority releases course-wise, category – wise and college – wise merit list for the Candidates on the basis of KCET 2018 cut off.

KCET 2018 Cut Off depend on the following Factors

  • Number of applicants appearing for the examination.
  • Difficulty of the question paper.
  • Performance of the applicants in all sections of the examination.
  • Seats for reserved category.
  • Number of available seats.
  • Average marks secured by the applicants in the exam.

  2. At the left side of the page, you will see various options.
  3. Select the cutoff rank option.
  4. A new tab will open.
  5. Select the desired section and click on the required link
  6. A pdf with complete information about the cutoff will be displayed on the screen.
  7. Now you will be able to check the cut-off.

KCET – 2018 Seat Reservation

KCET 2018 participating institutes include around 220 government and private colleges of Karnataka. Over 45,000 seats of KCET participating institutes will be filled by candidates who will clear the Karnataka CET 2018. The Government of Karnataka reserves a definite number of seats in every college for the candidates belonging to special categories such as Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Physically Disabled, Defence Categories and many others.

Candidates have to mention their reservation category while filling the application form of KCET 2018. Students claiming reservation are required to produce valid supporting documents  in the prescribed format at the time of counselling in order to avail the benefit of KCET reserved seats. KCET 2018 Reservation of Seat for different Special Category Candidate

There are various special categories against which a definite number of seats are reserved in government and private/ institutions by KEA. Candidates must check the categories and if they fall under any of this and have valid supporting documents to claim their reservation, then they can avail the benefit by mentioning their category while filling the application form of KCET 2018.

Reservation of seat against different special categories are as follows:-

Such candidates must produce ‘Caste Certificate/ Caste Income Certificate’ issued by the concerned Jurisdictional Tahasildar during document verification.

2Reservation for rural candidates15% of the government seats are reserved horizontally in favor of rural candidates who have studied ten full academic years from Class 1-10 in educational institutions within Karnataka.
3Reservation for Kannada medium candidates5% of the government seats are reserved horizontally for students who have studied ten full academic years in Kannada medium from class 1-10 in educational institutions within Karnataka.
4Reservation for physically disabledCandidates with physical disability ranging above 40% are eligible for KCET reservation of seats 2018.

Candidates claiming reservation under this category will have to appear for a separate medical examination at the KEA office, Bangalore.

5Reservation for N.C.C. (National Cadet CorpsCandidates are required to have participated in Republic Day Camp conducted by Director General of NCC, New Delhi.

Candidates must possess a ‘B’ certificate received during the five years of learning between class 8-12 in an institute of Karnataka.

·         The benefit of reservation can also be availed by candidates who have participated in camps such as All India Thal Sainik Camp (Boys)-TSC, All India Thal Sainik Camp (Girls)-TSC and All India Vayu Sainik Camp among others.

6Reservation for SportsCandidates must have won medals/ cups while representing the country in Super- A games or A games during the five year period of study in Karnataka between class 8-12.

Candidates must have represented the country and won medals/ cups in ‘B-Games’ and participated in Super- A or A- Games during their five year study in Karnataka between class 8-12.

7Reservation for Scouts & GuidesAs per the KCET 2018 reservation criteria, candidates must have received the ‘President’s Award’ during the five-year period of study in Karnataka between class 8-12.

Such candidates must produce the ‘President’s Award’ certificate during verification of documents.

8 Reservation for Defense CategoryWard of defense or personnel who belongs to Civil, GT, COYS, ASC who are civilian Class ‘III’ or class ‘IV’ Government servants and ‘Border Roads Organisational Personnel’ can apply for reservation.

Such candidates must fulfill clauses e, f and g of KCET eligibility criteria 2018.

Wards of Ex-Defence personnel are eligible for reservation under this category.

9Ex-Defense CategorySon/Daughter of ex-personnel of Defence services needs to possess Defense Certificate issued by Joint Director/Deputy Director.
10Reservation for Anglo-Indian categoryCandidates from the Anglo-Indian community claiming reservation under this category has to produce a certificate issued by the Registered Association of the Anglo-Indian community in Karnataka which has been countersigned by the Anglo-Indian MLA nominated by the Government.

Such candidates have to submit their valid documents at KEA office in Bangalore.

11Reservation for Central and Ex-Central Armed Police ForceCandidates must produce a certificate from CAPF Record Office in which it is mentioned that the parent of the candidate had declared their hometown as a place in Karnataka at the time of joining the service.
12Reservation for Jammu & Kashmir MigrantsSon/ daughter Jammu & Kashmir migrants can claim seats under Jammu & Kashmir migrant quota. One seat is reserved in every engineering college for the candidates who are wards of Jammu & Kashmir migrants.
13Supernumerary QuotaAll Candidates including general category candidates are eligible for admissions under this quota. It just they need to provide income certificate issued by concerned Tahasildar.
14Hyderabad – KarnatakaHyderabad-Karnataka region comprises the districts of Bidar, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal and Bellary.

70% of the available seats in every course in any regional university or educational institution are reserved for local persons.

8% of the available seats in each course of study in a state wise university or state-wise educational institution are reserved for the local candidates of Hyderabad- Karnataka region.

15RuralCandidates who have completed 10 years of basic education in rural areas/small urban areas/transitional areas as mentioned Municipal Corporation of Karnataka under Karnataka Municipalities Act. 1964 and Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976, fall under this category.

  1. I am from andhra pradesh- visakhapatnam. My father is in INDIAN AIR FORCE. Due to this i had studied in various states(not a fixed place). Can i apply for KCET ?. Is there any
    Reservations for me regarding OBC caste or any DEFENCE quota?
