- NTA displays the result in terms of Percentile.
- Raw marks obtained by the candidate in different shifts/sessions are converted to NTA Score
- The JEE Main normalization procedure is taken into account for the preparation of the result. This happens because the exam takes place on multiple shifts & days. The level of paper differs as per the shifts & days. Thus, NTA makes sure to have the balance as per the difficulty level of the paper. Note that Class 12th marks are not considered for calculating normalized scores, as decided by NTA
- On the basis of the JEE Mains result, the rank is prepared.
- Through the JEE Main rank students gets admission to various engineering institutes of India. All India Rank (AIR) is used for admissions through Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) to NITs/ IIITs/ CFTIs/ SFIs/ Others.
- After the declaration of the JEE Main Result 2025, Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will hold JEE Main Counselling and Seat Allotment for JEE Main and JEE Advanced candidates

How To Calculate The JEE Main 2025 Score?
In order to calculate the marks, the candidates have to consider the JEE Main 2025 marking pattern. However, to prepare the scorecard of the candidates, NTA considers the:
- Marking scheme of JEE Main and
- The normalization method.
A) Marking Scheme Of JEE Main
Marking Scheme for MCQs | Correct Answer | Four marks (+4) |
Unanswered /Marked for Review | No mark (0)
Incorrect Answer/Multiple Answer | Minus one mark (-1)
Marking Scheme for questions for which answer is a Numerical value | Correct Answer | Four marks (+4) |
Unanswered /Marked for Review | No mark (0)
Incorrect Answer/Multiple Answer | No mark (0)
Marking Scheme for Drawing Test –Part III | Evaluation of Two questions out of 100 marks. |
B) Normalization Method For Preparing JEE Main Result
There are various steps involved in it but the overall normalization procedure takes into account through this formula.
Check the steps to understand the normalization procedure for JEE Main Merit List 2025
Step 1: Division as per the session
Divison of the candidates as per the session is there so that there should be a fair decision as per the difficulty level of the paper.
Step 2: Result As Per The Each Session
For this mainly two steps are there such as preparation of the
- Raw Scores: Outline is set for the marks scored by the candidates. NTA never discloses the raw score but considers it while setting the final answer key. Simple logic flows in this context is that:
4 mark for each correct answer and 1 mark deduction for an incorrect response. |
- Percentiles Scores separately for each of the three subjects (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) and the total score.
Step 3: Compilation of NTA score and preparation of overall merit/rank list
NTA will merge the Total Raw Score of all the sessions as given in step 1 and have the NTA scores. After this, the compilation of results and preparation of the overall JEE Main 2025 Merit List / Ranking is there.
Note: Percentile of all sessions will be calculated separately to determine the total Raw Score and Raw Scores in three subjects: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
What Is The Difference Between JEE Main Percentage And Percentile Score
Students often get confused with the word “percentage” and “percentile”. Most of them believe it to be common but in reality, they are not. The JEE Main percentage is the result of absolute marking while the percentile is calculated through relative marking.
Calculating Percentage: (100 x Marks obtained by candidate) / Total marks
Calculating JEE Main Percentile: (100 x Number of candidates in the session with aggregate marks less than that obtained by the candidate) / Total number of candidates who appeared in that session
JEE Main Final 2025 Result
After the commencement of the JEE Main 2025 sessions, NTA will declare the final list of the JEE Main 2025. Combined marks of all the sessions (Feb, Mar, April & May) and the final result will be displayed in June 2025. NTA will consider the best of four sessions to prepare the final result. If the student attempts only one session then for the final result, only that session will be considered for him/her.

JEE Main Rank List 2025
JEE Main rank is the important factor through which admission is granted to the students in NITs, IIITs, and GFITs. Thus the display of the JEE Main includes the scorecard and the rank obtained by the candidates in the exam. The preparation of the rank takes place as per the marks obtained by the candidate. Two types of the rank card are there:
- All India Rank &
- Category Rank
Candidates get seats in the JEE Main participating institutes as per their rank. Category rank plays an important role in getting admission in NITs, IIITs, GFITs.
JEE Main Marks Vs Ranks
Candidates often get confused between the JEE Main marks and ranks. Thus for clarification, check the table given below for a better understanding. (Note that the difference in the ranking is huge as per the marks obtained, below table is just an example)

JEE Main Marks vs Percentile
The JEE Main percentile is the NTA score that is calculated by the authorities by applying the process of normalization of marks. There is a certain number of marks against which the percentile score is allotted which in turn can be called as the JEE Main marks vs percentile. Candidates may refer to the table below that reflects the range of marks for which a certain percentile is allotted to the respective candidates.
JEE Main 2025 Percentile vs Marks
Candidates must be clear of the concept regarding the JEE Main marks vs percentile. These two are totally different aspects. For better clarity follow the things mentioned.
- JEE Main marks: Score of the candidates in the exam.
- Percentile formula: Mar(100 x Number of candidates in the session with aggregate marks less than that obtained by the candidate) / Total number of candidates who appeared in that session.
Look at the example below:
