The NTA would work as an autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organisation to conduct entrance examinations for higher educational institutions.
NTA established as a society registered under the Indian Societies Registration Act, 1860.
It is chaired by an educationist appointed by Human Resource Development Ministry.
To serve the requirements of the rural students, NTA would locate the centres at sub-district/district level and as far as possible would undertake hands-on training exercise for the students.
The NTA will be given a one-time grant of Rs 25 crore from the government to start its operation in the first year and thereafter, it will be financially self-sustainable

- NEET 2019 will be conducted in multiple shiftings and an applicant will have an option of dates to choose from. Scores of different candidates in multiple sittings will also be equated using standardisation techniques.
- NTA will organize around 3000 test practice centres for students of rural areas so that everyone will have an opportunity to practice before the exam. Schools/engineering colleges with computer centres would be identified and kept open on weekend. The registered applicant can use the facility free of charge.
- The syllabus, question format, language and fees won’t change. Each exam will be conducted on four to five dates.
- Since the exam will be held in computer-based mode, the slot booking facility has been introduced.
Is to appear in both the NEET 2019 test is mandatory?
It depends entirely on the candidate whether to appear in both the test or not. They can attend the single test also. Candidate needs to register separately for each test.
If the candidate attends both the test then his/her merit will be determined by using standard techniques. According to reports, the new exam body will take into consideration the variation in difficulty levels in the two tests by using specialised standardisation techniques while determining the final score.
If the candidate attended the single test, then marks obtained in that test will be considered final for the merit list preparation.
