How To Calculate The JEE Main 2025 Paper 2 Score/Result?
In order to calculate the marks, the candidates have to consider the JEE Main 2025 marking pattern. However, to prepare the scorecard of the candidates, NTA considers the:
- Marking scheme of JEE Main and
- The normalization method.
A) Marking Scheme Of JEE Main
Marking Scheme for MCQs | Correct Answer | Four marks (+4) |
Unanswered /Marked for Review | No mark (0)
Incorrect Answer/Multiple Answer | Minus one mark (-1)
Marking Scheme for questions for which answer is a Numerical value | Correct Answer | Four marks (+4) |
Unanswered /Marked for Review | No mark (0)
Incorrect Answer/Multiple Answer | No mark (0)
Marking Scheme for Drawing Test –Part III | Evaluation of Two questions out of 100 marks. |
B) Normalization And Preparation Of Result of JEE Main Paper 2 2025
NTA will release the JEE Mains Paper 2 Result in an online mode. The results by the NTA will be declared in the form of a scorecard. Candidates who had taken the exam had to log in and download the scorecard. The normalization procedure will be used to balance the exam level in different shifts.
NTA will prepare the rank list on the basis of the normalized score of the candidate. This year, NTA will use a normalization procedure in order to equalize the difficulty level of both attempts. National Testing Agency will consider both the scores obtained by the candidate in Paper 2 of the first session and second session.
- If the JEE Main paper 2 aspirant has appeared in all the sessions, his/her best out of both scores will be taken into account for the preparation of merit list.
- If the candidate has taken either one of the attempts, then his/her score is considered for that particular session.
Things to Remember Regarding JEE Mains Paper 2 Result
- In case a candidate appears in more than one exam session then the NTA JEE Main Paper 2 Result contains the total normalized scores obtained by the candidate in the first and second attempt along with All India Rank (AIR) and All India Category Rank.
- In case a candidate appears only in one session, then the result is the score obtained by the candidate in each subject in the exam and the All India Rank.
Lets Us Understand What Is The NOrminalization Procedure While Preparing The Result/Scorecard.
Step 1: Distribution of Examinees in two shifts
Sessions are divided in such a way that approximately equal number of candidates are there in each session. These two sessions would be as follows: Session-1: Day-1 Shift-1, Session-2: Day-1 Shift-2.
This ensures that there is no bias in the distribution of candidates who shall take the examination. Further, with a large population of examinees spread over the entire country the possibility of such bias becomes remote.
Step-2: Preparation of Results for each Session
The result is prepared for each session in the form of:
- Raw Scores
- Percentiles Scores of Total raw scores.
The Percentiles would be calculated for each candidate in the Session as follows:
Let TP1 be the Percentile Scores of the Total Raw Score of that candidate. Total Percentile (TP1) : 100 X No. of candidates appeared from the session with raw score EQUAL TO OR LESS than T1 score/Total No. of candidates who appeared in the session |
Step-3: Compilation of NTA score and Preparation of Result:
As calculated in Step-2 above the raw scores of all the sessions will b emerged and shall be called the NTA scores which will then be used for the compilation of results and further processing for deciding the allocation.
For Example: In the examination held in two shifts, if the 40% marks correspond to a Percentile score of 78 in Shift 1 and 79 in Shift 2, then all those equal to or above 78 percentiles (Percentile score of 100 to 78) in both shifts will become eligible in General Category. Similar method will be adopted for the other categories to determine eligibility cutoffs. In case the examination is held in more number of shifts the same principle shall apply.
JEE Main B.Arch/B.Planning All India Rank of Paper 2 (AIR)
The All India Rank will be calculated after both the JEE Main have been conducted. JEE Main 2025 AIR will be prepared by giving higher rank to the candidates with more total raw marks.
Tie-breaking Policy
In a case where two or more candidates obtain equal marks, the inter-se merit of such candidates shall be determined in the following order:
- A candidate obtaining higher marks in Aptitude Test in Paper-2.
- A candidate obtaining higher marks in Drawing Test in Paper-2.
- Candidates older in age
- If the resolution is not possible after this criterion, candidates will be given the same rank.
What Is The Difference Between JEE Main Percentage And Percentile Score
he word “percentage” and “percentile” is different. Most of the students believe it to be common but in reality, they are not. JEE Main percentage is the result of absolute marking while the percentile is through relative marking.
Calculating Percentage: (100 x Marks obtained by candidate) / Total marks
Calculating JEE Main Percentile: (100 x Number of candidates in the session with aggregate marks less than that obtained by the candidate) / Total number of candidates who appeared in that session
JEE Main Marks Vs Ranks
JEE Main marks and ranks are two different things. Marks are actually the score gained by the candidates in the exam and rank is the listing of students according to their marks. Higher the marks, higher the rank (Difference in the ranking differs as per the marks obtained, below table is just an example)
JEE Main Scores | JEE Main Ranks (CRL) |
333-360 | 1-20 |
308-332 | 21-225 |
247-307 | 226 – 1492 |
201-246 | 1493 – 5752 |
148-200 | 5753 – 18377 |
100-147 | 18378 – 57131 |
60-100 | 57132 – 240541 |
1-59 | 240542 – 984170 |
-40 to 0 | 984171 – 1074221 |
JEE Main Marks vs Percentile
Candidates must be clear of the concept regarding the JEE Main marks vs percentile. These two are totally different aspects. For better clarity follow the things mentioned.
- JEE Main marks: Score of the candidates in the exam.
- Percentile formula: Mar(100 x Number of candidates in the session with aggregate marks less than that obtained by the candidate) / Total number of candidates who appeared in that session.
Look at the example below:
Marks Range | JEE Main Percentile |
360 to 310 | 100 – 99.98724751 |
309 to 299 | 99.985572 – 99.9740296 |
298 to 288 | 99.97589128 – 99.96258028 |
287 to 278 | 99.96146328 – 99.94424276 |
277 to 268 | 99.94098483 – 99.91929629 |
267 to 258 | 99.91836545 – 99.89081262 |
257 to 248 | 99.88643768 – 99.84845946 |
247 to 238 | 99.84510844 – 99.79959043 |
237 to 228 | 99.79679791 – 99.73294238 |
227 to 218 | 99.73005678 – 99.65475193 |
217 to 208 | 99.64888765 – 99.55273201 |
207 to 198 | 99.54919482 – 99.43609792 |
197 to 188 | 99.4200875 – 99.28958392 |
187 to 178 | 99.26473052 – 99.07781811 |
177 to 168 | 99.06329703 – 98.85683701 and so on………… |
