Kannur University Admission Basic Eligibility Criteria
- Students aspiring to enrol themselves in UG courses such as B.Sc, B.A or B.Com must have passed the HSC examination from a board recognized by the state. They must have secured the minimum marks mentioned by the university.
- The final admissions to these UG courses are done on the basis of the UG CAP(Centralized Admission Process) Test.
- Candidates aspiring to enrol themselves for the MBBS course must have passed HSC examinations with PCB and are required to have a valid NEET entrance score.
- Candidates aspiring to enrol themselves for the MD course must possess an MBBS degree and are required to have a valid score in NEET PG entrance exam.
- Admission to postgraduate courses such as MBA and M.Sc is also done through the PG CAP test. Along with the score in this test, the marks obtained in graduation will also be considered. A valid score in a management entrance exam will be required for final selection.
- Admissions to other postgraduate programs such as B.Ed and LLB are merit-based and candidates aspiring must possess a graduation degree.
- PhD aspirants must possess a master’s degree with 55% aggregate marks.

For UG Programme
- Age limit: The maximum age limit for admission to the UG Programme shall be 23 years as of 1st June of the academic year. For SC/ST candidates, the age limit is 25 years and for PWBD (Person with Benchmark Disability) candidates, it is 28 years.
- Education Qualification: A pass in Higher Secondary Examination/Vocational Higher Secondary Examination of the Government of Kerala or an Examination accepted by the Academic Council as equivalent thereto.
For PG Programme
- M.Sc. Mathematics – BSc Mathematics with not less than 50 % marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary Courses.
- M.Sc. Statistics – BSc Statistics with not less than 50 % marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary Courses. BSc Mathematics and Statistics (Double main) or BSc Mathematics with Statistics as one of the complementary with not less than 55% marks or equivalent GPA. 50% of total seats shall be reserved for BSc Degree holders with Statistics Main / Core or Mathematics and Statistics (Double main)
- M.Sc. Physics – BSc Physics with not less than 50 % marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary Courses.
- M.Sc. Chemistry – BSc Chemistry with not less than 50 % marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary Courses.
- M.Sc. Botany – BSc Botany/Plant Science/Life Science with not less than 50 % marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary Courses.
- M.Sc. Zoology – BSc Zoology/Life Science with not less than 50 % marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary Courses.
- M.Sc. Microbiology – BSc Biotechnology/Chemistry/Biochemistry/ Zoology/ Botany/ Plant Science/ Life Science/ Microbiology or any other subjects with Microbiology/ Biotechnology as one of the subjects of study at UG level with not less than 50% marks or equivalent GPA in Core Course/Part III excluding Complimentary Courses/subsidiaries.
- M.Sc.Biotechnology – BSc Biotechnology/Chemistry/Biochemistry/ Zoology/ Botany/ Plant Science/ Life Science/ Microbiology or any other subjects with Microbiology/ Biotechnology as one of the subjects of study at UG level with not less than 50% marks or equivalent GPA in Core Course/Part III excluding Complimentary Courses/subsidiaries.
- M.Sc. Electronics – BSc Electronics/Physics/Computer Science with not less than 50% marks or equivalent GPA Core Course/ Part III excluding subsidiaries/Complimentary Courses. 50% of total seats shall be reserved for BSc Degree holders with Electronics Main or Core course.
- M.Sc. Computer Science – BSc Computer Science/Electronics/Physics/Statistics /BCA or any degree with Physics and Mathematics at HSE with not less than 50% marks or equivalent GPA in Core Course/ Part III excluding subsidiaries/Complementary Courses.
- M.Sc. Geography – BA/BSc Geography Degree with minimum 50% marks under Part III (Main and Subsidiaries together) or equivalent GPA in core and complementary courses. Double main or triple main with Geography, as one of the main subjects, will be considered only in the absence of qualified candidates with a single main. Blind/Deaf candidates are not eligible for admission to the course.
- M.A. History – BA History with not less than 45% marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary courses.
- M.A. Economics – BA Economics with not less than 45% marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary courses. BSc Mathematics/ Statistics with 70% marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries. A total number of candidates admitted from the BSc stream should not exceed 25% of the total strength.
- M.A. Applied Economics – BA Economics excluding subsidiaries with not less than 45% marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary courses. BSc Mathematics/ Statistics with 70% marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries. The total number of candidates admitted from the BSc stream should not exceed 25% of the total strength.
- M.A. Philosophy – Any Degree with a minimum of 45% marks in Part III or equivalent GPA. An extra weightage of 25% of the mark/grade in part III is given for students who have passed BA Philosophy.
- MSW – Any degree with not less than 45% marks for non-science subjects and 50% marks for Science subjects or equivalent GPA for Core course/Part III subjects. Weightage of 10% shall be given to the candidates who have passed BSW with 45% marks in Core/Part III excluding subsidiaries.
- M.A. Malayalam – BA Malayalam with not less than 45% marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary Courses. BA/BSc with Malayalam as Common Course with not less than 45% marks or equivalent GPA in Common Course/additional language. Candidate those who have passed LRP programmes like B.B.M, B.B.A., B.Com. and B.Sc. etc. are not eligible for MA Malayalam programme Weightage of 10% of marks or GPA shall be given to the candidates who have studied Malayalam as Core Course.
- M.A. Hindi – BA Hindi/ Functional Hindi with not less than 45% marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary Courses. BA/BSc with Hindi as Common Course with not less than 50% marks or equivalent GPA in Common Course/additional language. Candidate those who have passed LRP programmes like B.B.M, B.B.A., B.Com. and B.Sc. etc. are not eligible for MA Hindi programme Weightage of 10% of marks or GPA shall be given to the candidates who have studied Hindi as Core Course. Weightage of 5% of marks or GPA shall be given to the candidates who have studied Functional Hindi as Core Course.
- M.A. Kannada – B.A. Kannada with not less than 45% marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary Courses. B.A./B.Sc. with Kannada as Common Course with not less than 50% marks or equivalent GPA in Common Course/additional language. 12 Candidate those who have passed LRP programmes like B.B.M, B.B.A, B.Com. and B.Sc. etc. are not eligible for MA Hindi programme Weightage of 10% of marks or GPA shall be given to the candidates who have studied Kannada as Core Course.
- M.A. Arabic – B.A. Arabic with not less than 45% marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary Courses. B.A./B.Sc. with Arabic as Common Course with not less than 50% marks or equivalent GPA in Common Course/additional language. B.A. (Afzal-ul-ulama) Arabic (Oriental Title in Arabic) Examination of Kerala/ MG/ Calicut/ Kannur University with 50% marks or equivalent GPA. Weightage of 10% of marks or GPA shall be given to the candidates who have studied Arabic as Core Course. Weightage of 10% of marks or GPA shall be given to the candidates who have studied Arabic & Islamic History (Double main pattern II) having secured 50% or above or equivalent GPA in the concerned group.
- M.A. English – B.A. English/Functional English with not less than 45% marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary Courses. B.A./B.Sc. with English as Common Course with not less than 45% marks or equivalent GPA in Common Course. Candidate those who have passed LRP programmes like B.B.M, B.B.A, B.Com. and B.Sc. etc. are not eligible for MA English programme Weightage of 10% of marks or GPA shall be given to the candidates who have studied English as optional. A weightage of 5% shall be given to the candidates who have studied Functional English.
- M.Com. Finance – UG Degree in B.Com/B.B.A./B.B.M/B.B.S with not less than 45% marks in Part III or equivalent GPA for Core and Complementary Courses.
- M.Com. International Business (Un-Aided) – UG Degree in B.Com/B.B.A./B.B.M/B.B.S with not less than 45% marks in Part III or equivalent GPA for Core and Complementary Courses.
- M.Com. Marketing – UG Degree in B.Com/B.B.A./B.B.M/B.B.S with not less than 45% marks in Part III or equivalent GPA for Core and Complementary Courses.
- M.A. Development Economics – BA with Economics as Core Course/ Part III excluding subsidiaries with not less than 45% marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary courses. BSc Mathematics/ Statistics with 70% marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries. The total number of candidates admitted from the BSc stream should not exceed 25% of the total strength.
- M.A. MTTM – Any degree with not less than 45 % subjects marks or equivalent GPA Core Course/ Part III Subjects. Weightage of 10% shall be given to the candidates who have passed a degree in Tourism/hospitality/hotel management with 45 % marks or equivalent GPA.
- M.Sc. Counselling Psychology – Any Degree with not less than 50% marks or equivalent GPA in Core Course/ Part III excluding subsidiaries/Complimentary Courses.
- M.Sc. Geology – BSc Geology with not less than 50 % marks or equivalent GPA excluding subsidiaries/Complementary Courses.
Kannur University Admission Process
The students aspiring to enrol themselves in UG courses such as B.Sc, B.A or B.Com have to pass the HSC examination from a board recognized by the state. The University will not be conducting online centralized allotment for the following Degree Programmes /Courses and those candidates who wish to apply for the same need to apply directly to the colleges concerned:
- All programmes for which Entrance Test and Aptitude tests are conducted for admission, like B.A. Music (Karnatic), B.A. Bharathanatyam, etc. Likewise, B.A. Afsal-Ul-Ulama course is not included under the CAP for the time being. Marthoma College for the Hearing Impaired, Kasaragod, PKKM college, Mananthawady are exempted from the CAP. The students should directly contact the college for admission with relevant certificates.

Kannur University Scholarship
Kannur University provides scholarships to all its students. The eligibility criteria for scholarships are as follows:

Kannur University Merit List & Counselling
The admission in the various courses takes place in accordance with the admission procedure set by Kannur University. The university organizes an entrance examination for the admission to all the PG courses. After the achievement of the entrance examination, the result will be publicized by the related departments. Kannur University Tie- Break Criteria
When there is a tie in the rank/mark the following criteria will be applied to break the tie:
- Priority will be given as per of their order of merit i.e.; 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
- If the tie still remains those with a more number of achievements in the same level will be placed above the others. (more number of I places, more number of II places and so on.).
- If the ties still remain the next best achievement as per the order merit will be considered.
- If the tie is not broken by the above method the person having the achievements during the year closer to the selection will be given a higher rank.
- If a tie cannot be broken by any of the above-mentioned sports achievements, the marks obtained in the qualifying examination will be considered for breaking the tie.

About Kannur University
Kannur University was established by the Act 22 of 1996 of Kerala Legislative Assembly. The University by the name “Malabar University” had come into existence earlier by the promulgation of an Ordinance by the Governor of Kerala, on 9th November 1995.
