Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a scholarship program established by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Government of India. KVPY Scholarship Amount 2018
Aspirants who qualify for the KVPY 2018 will be receiving a monthly scholarship up to the pre-PhD level. All candidates must make sure to fulfill all KVPY eligibility criteria before applying for the KVPY scholarship programme. Candidates who have done basic sciences in SA/SX/SB – during 1st to 3rd years of – B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math. / Integrated M.Sc. /M.S will be granted a monthly scholarship of Rs. 5000 and Annual Contingency Grant of Rs. 20,000. Those who pursue basic sciences in SA/SX/SB – during M. Sc. / 4th to 5th years of Integrated M.Sc. /M.S./M.Math./M.Stat will be granted a monthly fellowship of Rs. 7000 and an annual contingency grant of Rs. 28,000.
Meaning of SA, SB and SX streams in KVPY 2018
The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan yojana examination 2018 will be conducted for 3 streams of SA, SB and SX. Students applying for KVPY fellowship must know what these streams mean. Check the points given below:
SA Stream – Candidates studying in Class 11th (Science stream) can apply in this stream. Candidates must have passed class 10th with Mathematics and Science subjects like physics chemistry and biology. Students belonging to the general category must have secured a minimum of 80% marks in aggregate and the students of reserved category SC/ST/PwD need to secure 70% marks.
SX Stream – Students who have studied in class 12th (Science Stream) can apply in this stream. The candidate must have passed class 12th with Mathematics and Science subjects (PCB). Candidates belonging to the general category have to score a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in Science subjects(PCB) in Class 12th. Reserved category students of SC/ST/PwD must score at least 50% in the said subjects. General category students must have obtained at least 80% marks in aggregate in class 10th. Students belonging to the SC/ST/PwD category must have obtained at least 70%.
SB Stream – Candidates who have enrolled in the first year of undergraduate programme in Basic Science courses (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics and Biology) leading to B. Sc/ BS/ B. Math/ B. Stat/ MS/ Int. M. Sc can apply for this exam. Candidates belonging to the general category must have obtained at least 60% marks in aggregate in 10+2 examination. Reserved category candidates must have obtained at least 50% marks in the same. Students also have to pass their first year of graduation final examination and secure at least 60% marks (50% marks for SC/ST/PWD).
How does KVPY Scholarship work?
Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana works in the following manner; The fellow studies a basic science course in school/college or university and has to maintain a a minimum level of academic performance of 60% (for general category) and 50% (for SC,ST, OBC) marks in aggregate or equivalent and have to pass all the subjects prescribed.
In each academic year, the above specified marks have to be certified/validated by the head of the institution and if the candidate fails to obtain the sam, his/her fellowship will be discontinued. However, if the candidate passes all the subjects and obtains more marks in the subsequent years, his/her fellowship can be renewed under the same condition that the candidate will obtain 50% / 60 aggregate marks depending on the category.
Apart from this, participation and satisfactory performance of the candidates in the summer Camp in the first year and the summer project every year is required for renewal of the fellowship.
Candidates applying must note that KVPY 2018 fellowship for the students will be started after class 12th / (+2) / I year UG, only if they pursue undergraduate course in Basic Sciences, that is, B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Environmental Science or Geophysics.
Facts about KVPY
KVPY is not an academic course.
It only grants fellowship to candidates who wish to do graduation or post graduation in Basic sciences.
KVPY fellowship is not eligible for engineering courses.
Notifications About KVPY 2018
KVPY 2018 applications have been released on 11th July 2019 and the last day to fill the same is 31st August 2018.
Candidates can download KVPY admit card in the 2nd week of October 2018.
The KVPY exam 2018 will be conducted on 4th November 2018.
KVPY 2018 written exam result will be displayed in December 2018.
The KVPY interview is likely to be held in January – February 2019.
