To put it differently, the different procedures of preparation of the merit list will be adopted for different courses. Some courses accepting entrance exams as the criteria while other courses take a percentage in a previous degree or HSC for consideration. Check the different methods of preparation of the CENTAC Rank List.

- For some courses, it can also be based on the marks scored by the candidates in the entrance test conducted by CENTAC.

Preparation Of CENTAC Lateral Entry Merit List
A separate CENTAC Merit List 2025 for Lateral Entry will release. Check the method to obtain a merit list for various courses below.
- For diploma courses in Government Polytechnic Courses: The total marks or percentage in the concerned qualifying exam will be taken into consideration for the merit list. The qualifying exam acceptable is HSC (Academic Stream) or HSC (Vocational Stream) or the ITI in its respective specialization. In the case of grades, the lowest marks assigned to that particular grade will be taken into account. After applying the tie-breaking scheme (if applicable), the final merit list will be prepared.
- For UG Arts and Science: The merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the 2nd and 3rd-year examination of the respective diploma courses. Again the final merit list will be prepared only after making it go through the tie-breaking criteria.
- For B.Tech, B.Pharma, and P.B.B.Sc. (Nursing): For B.Tech the percentage or marks scored by the candidate in the last two semesters are taken for consideration for the merit list.
- In B.Pharma the aggregate marks obtained in the qualifying exam i.e, the diploma in Pharmacy will be considered. For P.B.B.Sc (Nursing) the aggregate marks achieved in the DGNM will be taken into consideration.
CENTAC 2025 Lateral Entry- Tie Breaking Methodology
If there is a tie between two candidates, in other words, if two or more candidates have the same marks in the qualifying exam then the role of the tiebreaker comes into play to make the final merit list. The tie-breaking criteria completely depend on the nature of the qualifying exam and on the type of the course. Check the tie-breaking criteria for different courses below.
For diploma courses in Government Polytechnic Courses: Date of Birth will be the basis of tie-breaker here. The candidate’s older in age get preference. Further, the tiebreaker will be based on a lucky draw if the date of birth of the two candidates is also the same.
For UG Arts and Science: The tiebreaker for this will be based on three different factors in the order of priority mentioned below.
- The aggregate percentage of the diploma.
- In case the percentage is the same then the total percentage of marks in HSC or SSC will be considered.
- If all of the above is also the same then the preference will be given to the older candidate.
For B.Tech, B.Pharma, and P.B.B.Sc. (Nursing): For B.Tech the tie-breaking criteria are followed in the given order of priority.
- The aggregate percentage obtained in the diploma or degree examination
- If the tie remains the same, then the candidate scoring more marks in 10 or 10+2 or equivalent examination will get priority.
- If still, the tie remains the same, then the student older in age will get a higher rank.
