UP Nurses and Midwives Council: Details

The UP Nurses and Midwives Council is set under the regulations of the Indian Nursing Council and it functions to conduct different nursing diplomas as well as paramedical courses in Uttar Pradesh. One should understand the functions of any state nursing council. In this section, we have given a description of the functions of any state nursing council. State Nursing Councils (SNC) were set-up in the year 1926 to control the training and practice within the state and issue licenses to qualified nurses. Also, a license issued by a council provides assurance to the public that the nurse has met predetermined standards. The major functions of SNCs are:

  • Recognition of Nursing Institution within the state.
  • It also functions for the registration and renewal of the licenses for qualified Nursing personnel.
  • Reworking of License.

However, in India, few SNC act as qualification conferring bodies for diploma courses as well.

Functions of UP Nursing Council

The UP Nurses and Midwives Council comes under Uttar Pradesh State Medical Faculty. The state nursing council of UP is responsible to conduct various nursing as well as diploma-level courses. Also, the council is responsible for other non-academic functions. Some of the major functions of the UP Nursing Council are:

  • The Council has the power to make bye-laws to provide for the recognition of institutions competent to give such training.
  • Also, it registers the candidates who have undergone the necessary course of training. And have passed the examination prescribed for Nurses, Health Visitors, Midwives, Auxiliary Nurse & Midwife, and Dais.
  • It also  issues the Diploma certificates for various ANM, GNM, and other nursing courses
  • The Uttar Pradesh Nurses Council also conducts the examination under the powers of the Govt. of Uttar Pradesh to make bye-laws. The UP Nurses Registration Council follows the Syllabus of the Indian Nursing Council and the bye-laws framed by the State Govt.
