National Institute of Design (NID) is a statutory authority which awards its own degrees. It offers Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) of 4-year duration and Masters of Design (M.Des.) of two-and-a-half year duration. NID Vijayawada and NID Kurukshetra are independent autonomous institutes. They are set up under the DIPP, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. They offer full-time Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) of four-year duration. NID Eligibility Criteria

If a candidate wants to apply for the examination then it is important to meet the eligibility. Those who do not fulfill the required qualification then do not apply.  In other words, the concerned authority will not entertain the application of a non-eligible candidate. The eligibility criteria of NID is different for the different courses. Refer to the NID 2020 Notification so that you can get the information in detail. However, check an overview of the eligibility from below.

For Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) and Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD)

  • Passed or will appear for Class 12th qualifying examinations in the academic year 2018-19 in any stream such as Science, Arts, Commerce, etc. from any recognized board such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or equivalent.
  • The age of a candidate should not be more than 20 Years. Those who were born on or after 1 July 1999 are eligible to apply for admission. However, candidates belonging to the reserved categories shall be eligible for age relaxation.

For Master of Design (M.Des.)

  • The age of a candidate should not be more than 30 Years. Those who were born on or after 1 July 1989 are eligible to apply for admission. However, candidates belonging to the reserved categories shall be eligible for age relaxation.
  • Completed Bachelor degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization from any university or institute or
  • Passed Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization from any university or institute or
  • Completed Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any recognized university or institute.

Note: Applicants holding citizenship of a country other than India are eligible to apply only under the overseas category, provided they fulfill all the eligibility criteria.

NID 2020 Application Form

The online form of NID shall be available at the official website. Candidates seeking admission should fill NID Online Form 2020.  While filling the NID Application Form make use of the correct details only.   • Then NID Application form 2020 will open in a new window.
  • After that fill the required details such as Name, Parent’s Name, Age, Date of Birth, Educational details and others.
  • Further, upload your recent photo and signature in the required file size and format.
  • Then make payment of the prescribed application fee either online or offline.
  • Check all the filled in details carefully and submit the form.
  • Take the printout of the filled in NID Online Form for further reference.

NID Application Fee

Candidates have to pay the application fee for the final submission of the form. Make payment of the requisite application fee either in online or in offline mode. Do not wait for the last moment to pay the fee of NID 2020. If you want to pay the fee online then use Credit Card, Debit Card or Net Banking. Make payment of the application fee offline through Demand Draft. The DD should be in favour of ‘All India Management Association’ payable at New Delhi.

NID Admit Card 2020

Candidates will need NID 2020 Admit Card in order to appear in the examination. The concerned authority will release NID Hall Ticket for eligible candidates only. The admit card of NID will be available at www.nid.edu. For downloading the admit card, the details such as Application/ Registration Number, Password etc. are important. Do not use incorrect details while downloading NID admit card. No candidate will receive the admit card either through email or post.   • Visit the official website that is www.nid.edu or click on the link which will be available here later.
  • Then the page to enter the details will open in a new tab.
  • After that enter the required information such as Application / Registration Number, Password etc.
  • The admit card will appear on the screen in PDF format.
  • Further, check the details available in the admit card carefully.
  • Take the printout of it and keep it safe for future reference.

NID Entrance Exam Pattern

Candidates who will apply for NID 2020 shall have to appear in the examination. The concerned authority will conduct  Design Aptitude Tests for Bachelor of Design (B.Des.),  Master of Design (M.Des.), and Graduate Diploma Programme in Design. It is important to have an idea of the NID Exam Pattern in order to score good marks. There will be two stages of the examination

  1. Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims
  2. Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains

NID Exam Pattern (Prelims) – B.Des. & GDPD

  • DAT prelims paper is a 3-hour test.
  • The language of the question paper will be English only.
  • There will be 100 marks questions to evaluate the Design aptitude of a candidate.
  • The question paper will have a mix of objective and subjective questions.

NID Exam Pattern (Mains) – B.Des. & GDPD

  • The question paper will be of 100 Marks.
  • The test will be conducted for 2 Days.
  •  DAT mains will consist of tests in multiple formats such in a studio set up.
  • The language of the question paper will be English only.

NID M.Des. Exam Pattern (Prelims)

Candidates of NID applying in only one discipline of M.Des Programme – DAT Prelims comprises of the CDAT [Common Design Aptitude Test] and domain-specific test of the faculty stream of the discipline selected by them. The time duration of prelim will two and a half hours.

For applicants applying in two disciplines of M.Des Programme – The CDAT [Common Design Aptitude Test] and ONE domain-specific test if the two disciplines selected falls under the same Faculty Stream. The total duration of the DAT Prelim will be 2.5 hrs. OR The CDAT (Common Design Aptitude Test) and TWO domain-specific tests if the two disciplines selected fall under different Faculty Streams. The total duration of DAT Prelim will be 4.5 hrs

NID M.Des. Exam Pattern (Mains)

NID DAT Mains for M.Des. programmes consist of two parts:

  1. Studio Test: This may consist of tests in different formats. The questions will be of 100 Marks and the duration will be of three hours. The questions in DAT Mains question paper will be in the English Language.
  2. Interviews: The concerned authority will conduct interviews separately for each discipline, immediately after the Studio Test, and at the same centre as the Studio Test.

NID 2020 Exam Centres

While filling the application form, candidates have to select a city for examination. Candidates will have to visit the Exam Centre of NID in order to sit for the examination. Do not forget to carry admit card because without admit card no candidate will get permission to enter inside the exam hall. The exam centre will fall in the city which a candidate will select in the application form. Choose NID Exam Centre 2020 where you can reach conveniently. NID Result 2020

Candidates have to qualify the examination so that they can get the call for appearing in the next stage. If a candidate wants to sit in Mains Exam then he or she has to qualify the Prelims Exam. After completion of the Mains Examination, the concerned authority will release a final common merit list. NID Prelims Result 2020, as well as NID 2020 Mains Result, will release at admission.nid.edu.

Tie Breaker Rule for NID Result

  1. The candidate who has obtained higher marks in Part B of the Design Aptitude Test – Prelims will get a higher rank.
  2. If this does not break the tie, then the candidate who will score higher marks in Part A of the Design Aptitude Test- Prelims will get a higher rank.
  3. If this still does not break the tie, then both the candidates will get the same rank.

Tie Breaker Rule for NID Final Merit List

  1. The candidate who has obtained higher marks in DAT Mains will get a higher rank.
  2. If this does not break the tie, then the candidate who will score higher marks in Stage 1 Design Aptitude Test will get a higher rank.
  3. In case of the tie still does not break, then the candidate who will score higher marks in Stage 1 Design Aptitude Test Part B will get a higher rank.
  4. If this does not break the tie, then the candidate who will score higher marks in Stage 1 Design Aptitude Test Part A will get a higher rank.
  5. If this does not break the tie, then the candidate who will score higher marks in the question of DAT Mains exam will get a higher rank.

NID 2020 Seat Allotment

The seat allotment of NID 2020 for  B.Des., GDPD, M.Des., will take place in Ahmedabad. Candidates whose name will appear in the final merit list will get the call participating in NID Seat Allotment 2020 process. Make sure that you carry all the essential documents. If any candidate fails to report with the requisite documents then his/ her admission may get cancelled.
