Before the applicant fills in the form, one will have to make sure that he/ she is eligible enough. Any candidate, who is ineligible will not be able to apply. AILET Important Dates 2020

The authority has released the official dates for AILET 2020. The candidates must make sure that they are updated with all the dates. The dates can be found in the table below:

AILET Eligibility Criteria 2020

Before the candidate submits the application form, he/ she must make sure that he/ she is eligible enough. Any ineligible applicant will not be able to apply. The complete eligibility criteria are:

B.A.LL.B (Hons.)

  • In order to appear for the AILET, candidates should have passed the 10+2 examination and scored a minimum of 50%. However, candidates appearing for 10+2 examinations in the year of the AILET can also apply, provided they meet the above eligibility at the time of admission.
  • All candidates, other than those applying under the Foreign Nationals category, should appear for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) and selection shall be solely on that basis.
  • Candidates should score at least 40% of the marks in the AILET (30% for SC/ ST candidates)
  • Foreign Nationals to be eligible should have obtained 65% marks in the qualifying examination.


The candidates must hold a degree of LL.B. or an Equivalent Law Degree with 55% marks (50% in case of SC/ST/ Persons with Disabilities). The candidates who are appearing in the final year of LL.B. Examination in April/May 2019 can also apply. However, they must maintain the minimum eligible percentage in the qualifying exam to be considered for admission.


A Master’s degree or a professional degree equivalent to the Master’s degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale or an equivalent degree from a recognized foreign educational Institution.


Obtained a degree in law and Master’s Degree with M. Phil. in social sciences or humanities of any recognised university with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale. There is a relaxation of 5% marks for ST/SC candidates.


Candidates possessing a Degree in law and Master’s Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree from an Indian Institution or from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited as per UGC Regulations.


Degree in law and PhD in any discipline.


Judge of any State High Court in India with three years’ experience or Judge of Supreme Court of India.


A foreign student, who is interested to enrol from outside India may be allowed to be registered for PhD on the condition that one supervisor will be from the NLU Delhi and one from the parent University/Institutions of the student. He /She will be exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test subject if he/she fulfils the other minimum eligibility conditions. The student will be required to visit National Law University Delhi for Viva-Voce to defend his/her Thesis.

AILET Application Form 2020

The last date to submit the application form of AILET has been extended. The AILET Application Form was released on the 15th of January 2020. The candidates, who are looking forward to sitting in the examination will have to fill in the form with the correct details. The step of filling the AILET Registration Form will lead to the upload the mandatory documents. While uploading the documents, the candidates will have to make sure that the size of the same is as per the specified criteria. Before the applicant fills in the application form, the candidate must make sure to read the eligibility criteria. After the candidate uploads the AILET 2020 Application Form, the applicant will have to pay the mandatory fee.

AILET Application Fee

After uploading the documents, the candidate will have to pay the mandatory amount of fee. This is to be noted that the fee can be paid online as well as offline. In order to pay the fee in the offline mode, the candidates will have to submit the cash in the post office. The online fee can be paid through Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking. AILET Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The structure of the question paper of AILET 2020 for the B.A.LL.B(Hons), LL.M and PhD courses are discussed below:

B.A.LL.B (Hons.)

The pattern of the question paper is highlighted in the following points:

  • Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • No. of Questions: 150
  • Total Marks: 150
  • Negative Marking: 0.25 marks will deduct for each wrong answer.

There are 100 MCQ’s of one mark each. It must be answered in the OMR Sheet. There is negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer. There is One Essay Question of 50 Marks which has to be answered in Separate Sheet.

AILET Admit Card 2020

The admit card of AILET will be released on the official website of the authority. The candidates, who submit the application form of AILET 2020 will be able to download the admit card. The AILET Admit Card 2020 can be downloaded after providing certain details in the login section. The candidate will have to bring the hall ticket of AILET to the centre of the examination. Without the admit card, one will not be allowed to sit in the examination. There will be many details printed on the AILET Hall Ticket 2020. The candidate will have to make sure that all the credentials on the admit card are correct. In case of any kind of inaccuracy, one will have to immediately contact the concerned authority.

Availability of Seats and Reservations

The following number of seats are available for admission to the B.A.LL.B (Hons), LL.M. and PhD courses offered at NLU. In case of any changes in seat availability, the details will be mentioned here.

B.A.LL.B (Hons.)

  • 80 [70 Seats on merit through All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) and 10 Seats for direct admission to Foreign Nationals on merit].
  • Reservation: 15% for SC candidates, 7.5% for ST candidates and 5% for Persons with Disabilities.

AILET Result 2020

The authority, that holds the responsibility of releasing the result of AILET 2020. The AILET 2020 Result will be out on the official website of the authority. One, who has taken the examination must make sure to be updated with all the dates. The candidate will be able to download AILET Result 2020 after logging in with the help of the mandatory credentials.

AILET Counselling Procedure 2020

After the declaration of results, NLU shall also release merit lists of the candidates based on the scores in AILET 2020. Candidates whose names appear in the merit lists will be able to download their Call Letters for Appearing in the Counselling. Counselling will happen offline at the campus of NLU Delhi. The counselling procedure for B.A.LL.B, LL.M and PhD shall take place separately. Candidates must pay the Admission cum counselling fee to lock their seat. The list is prepared as per the marks secured by the candidate in the exam.

Candidates will have to bring the following documents for counselling:

  1. Admission Letter issued by NLU Delhi.
  2. Scorecard of AILET 2020
  3. AILET 2020 admit card.
  4. Self-Attested copy of Class 10 marks statement.
  5. Copy of Class 12 marks statement. The candidate must self attest it.
  6. Character Certificate from the school/college last attended. The certificate should be self-attested.
  7. Self-Attested Transfer Certificate.
  8. Demand Draft of Rs.50,000/- drawn in favour of “The Registrar, National Law University Delhi” that is payable at New Delhi.
