JIPMER and AIIMS function under the Union Health Ministry and conducts their own admission test at present. Students will now get admission to PG courses on the basis of the NEXT(National Exit Test) results as per the NMC Act. The NEXT results will now act as a screening test for foreign medical graduates. Further, NEXT is basically a common final year exam. Students who will clear NEXT, can register themselves and obtain a license to practice. There is no restriction on the number of attempts for improving rank for admission to PG courses.

The process of selecting members for NMC will take place on October 14. Moreover, the selection will be done from the nominees of states, UTs, and state medical councils. This act was assented by the president on 8 August 2019.

In accordance with the act, now NMC would set up in place of the Medical Council of India. Now, they will handle the development and regulation of aspects of medical education in India. This act will now thus bring in mega reforms in the medical education sector.

Changes Made in Fee Structure

The NMC will be now responsible for framing the guidelines for the determination of fees and other charges. Moreover, 50% of seats in private colleges and deemed universities will also be filled as per the guidelines set by NMC. Therefore, now seats will be available at reasonable prices in such institutions as well.
