There has been a slight decrease in the number of JEE Main Applicants for the year 2018. In the year 2017, 12 Lakh candidates had registered for the prestigious exam as compared to this year where only 11.5 lakh candidates have turned up to apply for JEE Main 2018. There has also been a rise from 1.8 Lakh to 2.25 lakh in the number of candidates who have opted for the computer-based mode of the exam. Comparatively, there has been a dip in the number of aspirants who have chosen to take the offline mode of exam where last year’s 10.2 lakh candidates have dropped down to 9.2 lakh only.

According to Rajbir Singh, the CBSE executive Director who is in charge of JEE Main, there has been a gradual increase in the number of students who are opting for computer based test.
JEE Main 2018 dates have already been announced by CBSE. The offline exam will be conducted on 8th April 2018 whereas the online exam will be held on 15th and 16th April 2018. The exam will also be of utmost importance to those students who are planning to take the JEE Advanced 2018 which will be conducted on 20th May, as qualifying JEE Main will be one of the eligibility criteria for admission to 23 IITs. JEE Advanced for this will be conducted in online mode only.

This year, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Nagaland and few other institutes have joined in JEE Main system. These states will have their respective state admission criteria that will have to be fulfilled by the candidate. Applicants must fill the application online to take the exam.
JEE Main is regarded as one of the challenging examination along with JEE Advanced. Candidates seeking admission to IIITs, NITs and IITs should have to score at least 75% marks in class 12 or be in the top 20 percentile holders of their class 12. JEE Main Paper 1 will be held for admission to B.Tech courses and Paper 2 will be held for B. Arch and B. Planning programmes. The admit card for the same will be available tentatively in the second week of March and the results for the same will be announced on April 30 2018.
