IGNOU M.Phil/ PhD Admission 2025 will start soon. The National Testing Agency NTA will be announced the exam dates of OPENMAT. The candidates, who are interested in taking admission in M.Phil/ PhD courses of IGNOU must know about the complete admission procedure. In order to take admission, the candidates will have to fill the application form. The IGNOU M.Phil PhD Application Form will be out expectedly in the month of April 2025. This is to be noted that the admission to the M Phil/ PhD programmes will be done strictly on merit, based on the performance of the candidates in the Entrance Test and Interview.

IGNOU offers M.Phil/ PhD programmes under two categories: part-time and full time. Candidates will have to attend coursework if allotted to them. The M.Phil/ PhD programmes will involve coursework during the first six months of IGNOU M.Phil/ PhD admission, which will be conducted in IGNOU Campus at New Delhi only. A student has to attend the coursework on a regular basis. At least 80 per cent attendance in classes is compulsory.

M.Phil

Master’s Degree from a University recognized by UGC in the relevant discipline with at least 55% marks.

For PhD.

  • Master’s Degree from a University recognized by UGC in the relevant discipline with at least 55% marks.
  • Candidates holding M.Phil. degree (along with course work and dissertation both) or those candidates who have cleared NET (conducted by UGC/CSIR/ICAR) or any other equivalent examination will be exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test.
  • Those who have not cleared NET/any other equivalent examination or not holding M.Phil. The degree will have to appear in the Entrance Test.

IGNOU M.Phil/Ph.D. Application Procedure

The Application Procedure is available online only and no offline mode will be available. The Application fee of Rs.1000/-. will be submitted at the time of application submission. Before filling the online form, it shall be necessary that you register yourself in the online IGNOU M.Phil Admission portal first by visiting the website.

The registration process for IGNOU M.Phil/Ph.D. includes the following steps:

  • Click on the button “REGISTER YOURSELF” that appears in the applicant login area and fill the required registration details.
  • Remember, while choosing your UserName it must be in between 8 to 16 characters.
  • While choosing your password it must be alphanumeric and between 8 to 16 characters long.
  • After filling the mandatory information click the “SUBMIT” button.
  • Your username will be instantly sent to you via e-mail and SMS.

The online form for IGNOU M.Phil/PhD can be filled in the following steps:

STEP 1: Click on “Log in” button from the homepage of Online IGNOU M.Phil Admission system and then login with your User Name and password by clicking the “Log in” button given on the login screen.

STEP 2: Fill personal details, programme details, qualification details, course details, and correspondence details.

STEP 3: Upload Scanned Documents: Remember, before this step you should have the relevant scanned documents (It is suggested to scan documents from your originals). These include:

  1. Scanned Photograph (less than 100 KB)
  2. Scanned Signature (less than 100 KB)

STEP 4: Pay your the Application fee of Rs.1000/- through any of the following:

  • Payment by Debit/Credit Card (Master/Visa/Rupay)
  • Payment by Net banking
  • Payment by ATM Card (PNB)
  • Applicants can also pay the Application fee through Demand Draft of Rs.1000 in favour of IGNOU payable at New Delhi.

STEP 5: Once you have uploaded the documents, click the “NEXT” button you will get the Form Preview option. Save/Print your form for future reference.

It is not required to post any hard copy of your online application form.

Selection Procedure

The Selection Procedure will be inclusive of two stages:

  • Entrance test
  • Interview/Presentation

Admit Card of IGNOU M.Phil/PhD

Hall Tickets for appearing in the entrance test will be available on the IGNOU official website. Candidates must bring the Hall ticket on the day of the entrance test, failing of which they will not be allowed to enter the examination hall. This is to be noted that the admit card will be holding many details. The candidate must make sure that all the details are correct. In case of any discrepancy, one must immediately contact the concerned authority. Candidates are also required to bring, along with the Hall Ticket, an original identity proof having a photograph, such as Aadhar Card, Voter ID Card, Driving License, Passport and ID Card issued by Govt. Agencies.

IGNOU M.Phil/PhD Result 2025

The entrance test will be qualifying in nature. All the Candidates who secure at least 50% marks in the entrance test (45% marks in case of SC/ST/PH) will be shortlisted for the interview in order of merit subject to the maximum limit of five times of the available seats.

Interview/Presentation

Short-listed candidates in the Entrance Test will be called for interview/ presentation of Synopsis before the Discipline-specific Doctoral Research Committee. Those candidates exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test will also have to appear for interview/ presentation of Synopsis. Selected Candidates will receive Offer letters for IGNOU M.Phil Admission.

IGNOU Ph.D. Fellowship Amount

A selected Ph.D. scholar is awarded fellowship @8000/- per month along with a contingency grant of Rs.8000/- per annum and a selected M Phil scholar is awarded@ 5000/- pm with a contingency of Rs 8000/- per annum. The research Students are selected by a selection Committee, duly constituted by the competent authority for the award of IGNOU-Fellowship through criteria prescribed by the university from time to time.

The Ph.D program in Women’s Studies is aimed at providing doctoral candidates with the opportunity to pursue research in the interdisciplinary area of Women’s Studies under the guidance of senior faculty members and scholars from the field. Research areas are determined by the candidates with the help of a doctoral committee and in consultation with individual supervisors.     • Classes will be held around the weekend. But details will be available regarding the class schedule once the Brochure is released.

      It is okay if you registered yourself for Postgraduate Programs. The University releases separate admission forms for M,Phil/PhD courses. You will be able to apply for PhD program once the forms are available.
