Tamil Nadu Open University Admission

The University was established in 2002 in Chennai with the purpose of providing distance education to those who are not able to afford to pursue a regular course. Every year TNOU Admission opens the admission portal and defines the eligibility of the candidates as per the course for which they will be applying for. For most of the UG, PG and Diploma courses admission is provided on the basis of the Merit List prepared by the admission authorities of the University on the basis of the marks secured in the qualifying examination.

TNOU Admissions 2020 Schedule

The schedule for TNOU Admission to the courses will be provided in the Information Brochure which will be made available by the University. It is important that the candidates keep themselves updated with the latest released information and must make sure that they do not miss any of the Important dates and the events. It should be noted that that the University has two admission cycle, one is the Calendar Year cycle commencing from the month of January and the Academic year cycle commencing from the month of July. TNOU Admissions Application Form 2020

The TNOU has converted all its Admission and Examination operations and its process through online. Hence the applications for admission into any Programmes will be accepted through online mode. Please refer TNOU website www.tnou.ac.in for online admission. The Application Form for Tamil Nadu Open University is made available by the examination conducting body of the University. Candidates interested in taking admission will have to fill up the Application Form and submit it before the due date. The availability of the Application form will be in an offline mode and the final submission of the form will be at the prescribed centre as allotted by the University.

Since TNOU Admission 2020 to the University takes place in two admission cycles, one is a Calendar Year and another one is the Academic Year, the Applications for both the cycles of the Admission will be made available separately and candidates will have to gather the forms as per their availability. The Information Brochure will also be made available along with the Application Form of the TNOU. Candidates are advised to go through the eligibility criteria mentioned in the Information Brochure very carefully and then only proceed to fill up the Application Form for the course in which they want to apply for the admission. Applicants must make sure that the information provided in the form such as the Personal Information, Academic details, contact details and documents attached to the Application form must be correct and valid as these details will be cross-checked at the time of the admission by the admission authorities. Any form of misleading details will lead to the cancellation of the candidature. Academic details, in particular, should be entered very carefully.

How To Fill TNOU Application Form 2020

  • Before submitting the Application, applicants are asked to read carefully and thoroughly the prospectus which is available on the TNOU website www.tnou.ac.in.
  • Before applying online, check your eligibility regarding minimum required age, educational qualification, experience, etc., for the programmes applied for.
  • Copies of the certificates, photo of the applicant and the signature of the applicant should be self-attested and uploaded.
  • Applicants possessing degrees awarded by the Universities not recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) are not eligible for admission to the Programmes for which the minimum qualification prescribed is a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Only those applicants who have passed the qualifying examination either under the 10+2+3 pattern of education or under the 11+1+3 pattern of education or 11+2+2 pattern of education or under the Open University system will be eligible for admission to the Programme for which the minimum qualification prescribed is a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • If the copies of the Certificates enclosed are in a language other than Tamil or English, a true version of the Certificates in Tamil or English duly certified by a person authorized to attest the Certificates must be enclosed.
  • After examining the application, the admission wing shall allot the Enrollment Number and send the ID Cards to the students. The students shall quote the Enrollment Number in all their correspondences with the University.

Mode of Payment of Fees

For all the Programmes the fees shall be paid to the University online. However, Demand Drafts / Challans will be accepted towards the payment of Admission fee, Registration fee and Examination fee, Provisional Certificate and Convocation fee. Last Date for Submission of the Tamil Nadu Open University Application Forms shall be submitted for all Programmes on or before the dates mentioned below: i) Admission for Calendar Year batch – 31st December ii) Admission for Academic Year batch – 30th June Note: The University, however, reserves the right to extend the last date for submission of Online Application. If extended the revised dates would be notified in the Newspapers and in the University website (www.tnou.ac.in).

Eligibility for TNOU Admission 2020

Tamil Nadu Open University Ph.D. Admissions 2020 has defined the eligibility criteria as per the course offered. Candidates who are planning for the submission of the Application Form must make sure that they fulfill the eligibility criteria properly of the course for which they will apply. The eligibility criteria in detail will be explained in the Information brochure which will be released by the University. Eligibility conditions are the basic requirements that must be fulfilled by the candidate in order to acquire admission to the course. Candidates who will be found not completing the eligibility criteria will not be allowed to proceed with the Admission Procedure further. For the admission to the Undergraduate Courses, the candidate must have passed class 10th and class 12th or an equivalent exam from a recognized Board or the University. Candidates who are admitted under non +2 admitted into a degree programme in TNOU have to necessarily complete the Bachelor of Preparatory Program in order to be eligible to apply for the degree programme.

For the admission to these courses, the candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in any stream from a Recognized University. For MCA, the candidate must have Mathematics as one of the subjects in class 12th or in the Bachelors.

TNOU Admission Procedure 2020

Candidates must make themselves aware of the admission procedure which is prescribed by the University. It is important that the candidates go through the conditions and then only proceed for TNOU BEd. Admission 2020 to the desired course further. The admission procedure for various courses will differ as to the guidelines defined by the University. Applicants must make sure that they follow the correct procedure for the admission to the course for which they will be applying for.

Under Graduate Courses:

For the Under Graduate courses, the admission will be provided on the basis of the Merit list which will be prepared by the University based on the marks secured by the candidate in the qualifying examination and the final seat allotment will be done on the basis of the counselling conducted by the University. Candidates will be called to the counselling only if they will be able to acquire a place in the Merit List.

Post Graduate Courses:

For the Post Graduate and Diploma courses also, the admission will be provided on the basis of the Merit which will be prepared by the admission authorities of the University on the basis of the marks secured by the candidate in their Bachelor’s Degree. The final seat allotment is provided through the counselling procedure conducted by the University.

B.Ed Course: 

The University will conduct an entrance exam for the admission to B.Ed course offered to the interested candidates. It will be important that the applicants go through the eligibility criteria very carefully prescribed by the University and then only proceed for the B.Ed Application Form. The final seat allotment will be on the basis of the counselling held by the University. Candidates who will be called for the counselling and will fulfil all the criteria will be allotted with a seat to the course.

Diploma and PG Diploma Courses:

Tamil Nadu Open University also offers the admission to the Diploma and PG Diploma courses. The eligibility criteria for the admission to the diploma and PG Diploma differs as per the guidelines laid down by the admission authorities of the University. The admission to the Diploma and PG Diploma is provided on the basis of the marks secured by the candidate in the qualifying examination which will be followed by the Counselling procedure.

TNOU Exam Admit Card 2020

The Admit Card will be released by the admission authorities of the University. Candidates will have to provide the required information in order to download the Admit Card successfully which will be available on the official website of the University. It must be noted that the Hall Ticket will be made available only for the course for which the University will conduct an entrance exam. It is mandatory for the candidates to bring the Admit card on the day of the exam, the entry of the candidate without the Admit card will be prohibited otherwise.

TNOU Admit Card 2020 will mention all the important details such as the Name of the candidate, Application Number, Roll Number, Date and Timing of the exam, venue of the examination and instructions to be followed by the candidate on the day of the exam. If any form of error or discrepancy is found in the Admit Card of the Univeristy, the candidate must contact the examination conducting body of the University immediately.

TNOU Exam Merit List 2020

The Merit List will be released by the examination conducting body of Tamil Nadu Open University. Candidates who have successfully submitted the application form will be eligible to go through the Merit List and check if they are qualified to proceed for the admission procedure further. The Merit List is released mentioning the names of the candidates who will be called for the Counselling Procedure further for the final seat allotment to the applied course.

TNOU will release the Merit List of the UG, PG, Certificate and Diploma courses which will be offered by the admission authorities of the University. Candidates will have to provide the correct and valid academic details in the Application form. Since the preparation of the Merit List will be on the basis of the marks secured in the qualifying examination, it is important that the information in TNOU Application Form is valid and correct. It must be noted that acquiring a place in the Merit List will not assure the admission to the applied course and the final admission will only be on the basis of the counselling depending upon the candidate’s preference and the availability of the seat in the course.

Counselling for TNOU Admission 2020

Candidates whose names will be in the Merit List released by the examination conducting body of the University will be called for the counselling procedure held for the final admission to the course. The Counselling is conducted with the purpose of the final seat allotment of the candidates. After the Merit List has been released, the candidates whose names are mentioned in the list will be provided with an Imitation letter inviting them for the counselling. The letter will mention the date and time of the counselling as well as the centre at which the candidate has to report for the document verification for the final admission.

Candidates will be required to register themselves for the counselling procedure and provide the details such as the name of the course, college and other important details. It will be important for the candidate to register themselves for the counselling. Although it must be noted that only those candidates who will have their names in the Merit List will be eligible for the counselling and will have to register themselves. It will be important that the candidates report on the allotted day and time for the counselling along with the important documents which will be mentioned in the Information Brochure and the admission fee to be submitted on the day of the seat allotment.
