Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is an autonomous institute under Department of Space, Govt. of India that offers undergraduate Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) and dual degree programme. The admission into IIST is based on JEE Advanced rank. IIST does not conduct any entrance exam, however, it conducts centralized counselling every year and candidates get admission into the institution based on the JEE Advanced rank.

IIST Offers the Following Undergraduate Programmes

In the Dual Degree programme introduced in 2017, students receive on successful completion of the 5 year (10 semesters) programme, a B.Tech. degree in Engineering Physics and a M.S./M.Tech. degree in one of the following four streams.
- M.S. in Astronomy and Astrophysics
- M.S. in Solid State Physics
- M.Tech. in Earth System Science
- M.Tech. in Optical Engineering
There is no option to exit the program with a B.Tech degree. The students will give their preference for the M.S./M.Tech. specializations at the end of the sixth semester. They will pursue one of the four specializations based on their academic performance (C.G.P.A) up to the sixth semester.

IIST has officially released some important dates regarding counselling and admission procedure for 2018. The dates for the release of admission brochure, opening and closing of registration has been officially announced by the authority.

Application Form for Admission into IIST 2018
Candidates could register and fill up the application form for admission into IIST for undergraduate B Tech and dual degree programme online by visiting the official website from 5th to 18th June 2018. Candidates had to read the eligibility criteria before filling up the online application form. Filling the application form was a 4 step process. Step by step guide to filling up the application form for counselling is provided below.
Registration
Candidates had to register themselves by visiting the online portal i.e admission.iist.ac.in, on the application portal page, they have to click on “undergraduate admission 2018” option. Upon clicking, a registration page will be displayed on the screen. On the registration page candidates have to enter the following details :
- JEE Main roll number 2018
- JEE Advanced roll number 2018
- Valid Email ID
NOTE: After registering, a unique login ID will be generated. Candidates must note down the id in order to fill up the application form.
Filling up of IIST B Tech Application Form
After registration, candidates have to log in using their registered id and fill up the following details
- Name
- Address
- Contact Number
- Marks obtained in JEE Advanced 2018
- Marks obtained in JEE Mains 2018
Payment of Registration Fee
After filling up the application form, candidates must review all the entered details and then proceed to pay the registration fee online through SBI-COLLECT (www.onlinesbi.com) as given in the table below:

NOTE: The Registration fee is non-refundable and candidates cannot pay the registration fee offline.
Printout of Filled Application Form
After successful completion of application fee payment, application form and payment slip duly submitted will be displayed on the screen. The candidate is advised to take the print out of the same for future use.
Eligibility Criteria of IIST 2018
Candidates applying for admission into IIST for undergraduate B Tech and dual degree programme must meet the following eligibility criteria. Following are the main eligibility criteria related to age, citizenship, qualifying examination, qualifying marks and subject combination

3. | Academic Qualification | Must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PD candidates should be at least 65%. The marks scored in the following five subjects will be considered for calculating the aggregate marks criterion. Physics Chemistry Mathematics A language (if the candidate has taken more than one language, then the language with the higher marks will be considered) Any subject other than the above four (the subject with the highest marks will be considered) |
4. | JEE Advanced | Candidates should appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (Main)-2018 conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi to qualify themselves to appear for Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)-2018 conducted by IITs and secure the minimum prescribed category-wise marks in JEE (Advanced)-2018 as given below : General Candidates (GEN) – At least 20% marks(i.e.73 marks out of 366) in aggregate and at least 5% marks (i.e. 6 marks out of 122) in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). Other Backward Community – Non creamy layer OBC candidates: At least 18% marks(i.e. 65 marks out of 366) in aggregate and at least 4.5% marks (i.e. 5 marks out of 122) in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). SC, ST & PD candidates: At least 10% marks(i.e.36 marks out of 366) in aggregate and at least 2.5% marks(i.e. 3 marks out of 122) in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). |

IIST Rank List 2018
IIST admission rank list has been released online on 21st June 2018 and it contains the names of those candidates who have registered online for the admission to IIST and satisfying all the eligibility criteria. IIST prepares the rank list on the basis of the aggregate marks scored by the candidates in JEE Advanced 2018.

In case of a tie between two or more candidates, then following steps will be taken by the IIST
- The higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Mathematics.
- If this does not break the tie, the higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who secured higher marks in Physics.
- If there is a tie even after this, the higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who secured higher rank in JEE Main 2018 examination in the respective category.
IIST 2018 Cut-off
IIST B Tech 2018 cut off is the minimum marks which the candidates require to be eligible to apply for admission in the B Tech and dual degree programmes that are offered at IIST. Cut-off will be announced by IIST soon after the declaration of rank list. IIST will decide the cut-off on the basis of the total number of applications and seats available in undergraduate engineering courses.
IIST Counselling and Seat Allotment 2018
Counselling for IIST B.Tech 2018 is being conducted in the offline mode from 27th June 2018 onwards. IIST conducts the counselling for candidates who have successfully applied for IIST B Tech admission 2018 and whose names appear in the rank list. IIST will consider the JEE advanced 2018 rank list (category-wise) in order to shortlist eligible candidates. Candidates will have to be physically present for counselling which will take place simultaneously in five cities(Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, New Delhi and Thiruvanathapuram). They must be accompanied by at least one of the parents. During the counselling, candidates will have to submit all the original documents/ certificates for verification.

IIST Seat Reservation 2018
As per the reservation policy of Government of India applicable to central educational institutions (CEI), a definite number of seats are reserved for the candidates belonging to categories other than general. Students claiming reservation are required to produce valid supporting documents in the prescribed format at the time of counselling in order to avail the benefit of IIST 2018 reservation of seats.
