Punjab Technical University (PTU) is a state university situated in Punjab. This university does not conduct any entrance exam for admission to undergraduate B Tech programme in the university itself & its affiliated colleges. It only conducts online centralized counselling and candidates are given admission on the basis of JEE Main exam score. This article contains the information about the eligibility criteria for general and reserved category candidates for PTU B Tech admission 2018.

Interested candidates can fill up the online application form to participate in the counselling process but they must read all the eligibility criteria once before applying for PTU B Tech Admission 2018. If the candidate fails to meet the set eligibility criteria then it will lead to the automatic disqualification of the candidates from the admission process. Applicant must go through the below-given article to check whether they are eligible to apply or not for the counselling process.

Eligibility Criteria for PTU B Tech Admission 2018

  • For admission to the B Tech programme, 85% of the seats will be reserved for candidates from within the state and the rest of the 15% seats shall be open for candidates belonging from outside the state.
  • Admission will be made on the basis of JEE Main 2018 rank for both 85% quota for candidates belonging to Punjab and 15% quota for candidates from outside Punjab.
  • Candidate must be a citizen of India.
  • After the central counselling, if any seats of B Tech (Bio Technology) remains vacant, candidates who have studied Chemistry as a core subject along with Mathematics/Computer Science/Bio Technology/Biology as an optional subject will be eligible for admission.
  • Students appearing qualifying examination in year 2018 can also take part in the counselling. However, the selection will be done on the basis of JEE Main 2018 Merit. The admission of such candidates will be provisional. If any candidate fails to fulfill the eligibility requirement at the time of counselling, he/she will not be granted admission under any circumstances.

The minimum qualifying examination along with JEE Main 2018 score required to become eligible to apply for PTU B Tech admission 2018 is provided in the table below. For lateral entry candidates who want to get admission into B Tech programme require to possess certain eligibility criteria to apply for the admission.

Those candidates who have passed diploma in any Engineering Trade from Punjab State Board of technical education & Industrial Training, Chandigrah or Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal (SLIET) or any other such examination from any other recognized state board of technical education.

OR

Those candidates who have passed the two year certificate course from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal (SLIET) will be eligible to apply.

2. B-Tech (Bio-Technology) 1st year 4 years / 8 semester All those candidates who have passed the 10+2 examination from a board recognized or established by central/state government through a legislation withPhysics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects along with one of the following subjects :-

1)Mathematics. 2)Bio-Technology. 3)Computer Science. 4)Biology

OR

Those candidates who have passed diploma in any Engineering Trade from Punjab State Board of technical education & Industrial Training, Chandigrah or Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal (SLIET) or any other such examination from any other recognized state board of technical education.

OR

Those candidates who have passed the two year certificate course from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal (SLIET) will be eligible to apply.

3. B-Tech 2nd year (Lateral Entry) 3Years/ 6years All those candidates who have passed diploma examination from an AICTE approved institution and have obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in appropriate branch of Engineering / Technology shall be eligible to apply.

OR

All those candidates who have passed B.Sc degree from a recognized university as defined by UGC, with at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) and passed class 12 with mathematics as a subject shall be eligible to apply.

Students who have passed B.Sc Degree from a recognized university as defined by UGC, shall clear the subject of Engineering Graphics / Engineering Drawing and Engineering Mechanics of the first year engineering program along with the second year subjects.

Eligibility Criteria for Reserved Seat of PTU B Tech Admission 2018

PTU reserves a definite number of seats in universities and institutions affiliated with it for the candidates belonging to special categories like SC/ST/OBC/PwD etc. Candidate belonging to special category must ensure that they have appeared in JEE Main 2018 entrance exam. They will be selected on the basis of both JEE Main 2018 score and category.

Candidates who want to claim seat reservation under the below given specified category are required to make their respective claim at the time of registration for the PTU B Tech 2018 online counselling. The claim for reservation will, however, be considered by the authority only after the applicant produces the required certificates at the time of admission.

Important Points Regarding Seat Reservation Criteria for PTU B Tech Admission 2018

  • If the sub-categories are not filled by suitable candidates, then those seats will be filled by candidates from the other sub-categories of disabled candidates. If the seats still remain vacant then admission will be offered to candidates belonging to general category.
  • Children and widows of defence personnel killed or disabled to the extent of 50% or more in action, wards of gallantry awardees, children of serving defence personnel/ex-servicemen (2%). The order of priority to this category is given in the table below :
