Eligibility Criteria of CTET
The candidate, who is a strong aspirant of CTET must be sure to possess the following criteria of eligibility before applying for the examination:
Classes I-V-Primary Stage:
One must have passed his/ her Senior Secondary or its equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education.
OR
The applicant must have qualified his/ her Senior Secondary or its equivalent with an aggregate of 45% marks. He/ she must have passed or appeared in the final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002.
OR
The candidate must have passed his/ her Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4- year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed).
OR
The aspirant should have qualified his/ her Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2- year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
OR
One must possess graduation with a minimum of 50% marks as well as a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed).
Note- The candidate, who has qualified Bachelor of Education from any NCTE recognized the institution shall be considered eligible for appointment as a teacher in classes I to V. The selected candidates will have to undergo a Six-Month Bridge Course in Elementary Education recognized by the NCTE, within two years of such appointment as a primary teacher.
Classes VI-VIII-Elementary Stage:
The candidate must be a graduate from a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education. The appearing candidates are also eligible to apply.
OR
One must have pursued his/ her graduation with a minimum of 50% marks and must have passed a 1-year course of Bachelor in Education (B. Ed). The appearing candidates are also eligible to apply.
OR
The candidate must be a graduate in any discipline with at least 45% marks and must have passed or appeared in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B. Ed), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard.
OR
The candidate must have passed his/ her Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks and must have passed a 4- year Bachelor course in Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed). The candidates, who are still there in final year are also eligible to apply for the course.
OR
One must have qualified his/ her Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks. He/ she must also have passed his/ her 4- year B.A/ B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/ B.Sc course. The appearing candidates are also eligible to apply.
OR
The candidate must be a graduate in any field with at least 50% marks and must have passed or appeared in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).
OR
The applicant must have qualified Bachelors of Education. The candidate, who is pursuing any of the teaching courses is also eligible to appear in the entrance examination.

Important Points Related to CBSE CTET Eligibility 2025
- The candidates, who belong to the reserved categories shall be provided with the reservation up to 5% in the required eligibility criteria.
- In order to take the examination of Diploma/Degree Course in Teacher Education, the candidate must possess a qualification in Diploma in Education (Special Education) and B.Ed (Special Education) recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).
- The candidate who holds a degree of D.Ed in Special Education shall undergo the training of an NCTE recognized 6-month Special Programme in Elementary Education.
- This is to be noted that all the qualifications mentioned above apply to the teachers of Languages, Social Studies/Social Science, Mathematics, Science etc.
- For the teachers of Physical Education, the norms of NCTE Regulation, dated 3rd November 2001, will be applicable. The teachers of Art Education, Craft Education, Home Science, Work Education, etc., the existing norms of eligibility prescribed by the State Governments and other school managements will be applicable till the time NCTE lays down the minimum qualifications in respect of such teachers.
- The candidate, who is studying any of the teaching courses specified in the notification of NCTE dated 29th July 2011 are eligible for appearing in CTET.
- Before the candidate applies for the entrance examination, he/ she must check the complete eligibility criteria.
- If the authority finds any candidate ineligible in between the admission procedure, then it will reject him/ her immediately.
