List of Top Law Colleges in India
National Law School of India University:
This was the first National Law University to be established in India in 1986. Located in Bangalore, the University offers Five years integrated BA/LLB and 3 years LLB Undergraduate course and Post Graduate (LLM) research degree. The University has an intake of 80 students in its Undergraduate Law Programme, 40 in Masters of Law and 40 in its recently introduced Master in Public Policy.
Admission Procedure: The University doesn’t conduct any form of independent entrance exam for admission to the courses. Admissions to both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses are based on the CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) score secured by the candidate in an entrance exam.

National Law University:
This Law University was established in 2008 is one of the National Law Schools in India built on the five year Law Degree Model proposed and implemented by the Bar Council of India. NLUD (National Law University Delhi) offers a five year Undergraduate BA, LLB (Hons.) program in which 70 seats are offered by the University and 10 additional seats are allocated to foreign nationals. The University also offers one year Post Graduate Program (LLM), it traditionally also offers Postgraduate Diploma Program in Urban Environmental Management, Judging and Court Management and IPR and Patent law.
Admission Procedure:
- For admission to its Undergraduate program NLUD conducts All India Law Entrance Exam (AILET) every year. It should be noted that NLUD doesn’t accept the score of CLAT like other National Law Universities.
- For Postgraduate programs, NLUD grants admission through written test followed by an Interview.

NALSAR University of Law:
Officially known as National Academy of Legal Studies and Research, this University was established in 1998 by an Act of State Legislative Assembly by the state of Andhra Pradesh. Located in Shaamirpet, Hyderabad, Telangana it was the second National Law University to be instituted in India. The University offers five years integrated BA LLB (Hons.) Undergraduate Program and a one year Post Graduate LLM Program. About 10 areas of specialization are offered in the PostGraduate program which includes a dissertation. Research Programs (Mphil and PhD) are also offered by the University.
Admission Procedure: The Nalasar University of Law grants admission to its Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses on the basis of CLAT score secured by the candidate in the exam.

Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur:
This prestigious Institution was first of the IITs to be established by the Government of India in 1951. The Law program is offered by Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property law offering Bachelor of Law (LLB Hons.) and Master of Law (LLM) in Intellectual Property law approved by Bar Council of India. This Law School is the first of its kind law school to impart legal education with IP specialization within the IT system bringing synergy among Science, Technology, Management and Law.
Admission Procedure: IIT Kharagpur conducts entrance exam for the admission to its Undergraduate and Post Graduate Law Courses. Applicants are required to apply online if planning to appear for the entrance exam.

National Law University, Jodhpur:
This University was set up in November 1999 by Passing the National Law University Act by the State Legislature of Rajasthan. The first batch of Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses was admitted to the University in the year 2001. National Law University, Jodhpur offers five years integrated Undergraduate Programme in three streams B.A. LL.B (Hons.), B.B.A/LL.B (Hons.) and B.Sc. LL.B (Hons.). The intake capacity of the Undergraduate degree Programmes put together is 100 students plus 15 (NRI). The University also offers a Post Graduate Program (LL.M.) in Corporate Law, IPR and Technology law for one year. The intake capacity for the Postgraduate program is of 80 students.
Admission Procedure: NLU Jodhpur grants admission to the eligible candidates on the basis of the CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) score as secured by the candidate in the exam. After the declaration of CLAT Merit List, the University invites candidate on the basis of the Merit. The admission to both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses is given on the basis of CLAT score.

The Law Faculty of Jamia Millia Islamia was established in 1989. The University has made a remarkable progress by introducing new courses, bringing innovative techniques of imparting legal education and emphasizing on expanding the horizons of the legal profession. The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences:
This University was established under WBNUJS Act, 1999 adopted by West Bengal legislature in July 1999. Considered one of the best amongst the National Law Schools in India, the University offers a five-year Integrated B.A./B.Sc. LLB (Hons.) degree programme at the Undergraduate level and a master of Laws (LLM) programme at the Post Graduate Level. NUJS also offers M.Phil/ PhD and Diploma in Business laws and other programs.
Admission Procedure: For admission to NUJS, candidates are required to score in CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) exam. The University doesn’t conduct any form of Law Exam and grants admission to the candidates on the basis of the merit and marks secured by the candidate in CLAT exam.

Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University:
This Law University was established in the year 2005 for providing legal education in India. The University offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses to the eligible candidates. The courses namely are Five Year integrated programme B.A. LL.B (Hons), one-year Postgraduate course (LLM), PhD and other such programs. The intake capacity for an Undergraduate program is 160 plus 16 NRI seats per year while the intake for a Postgraduate course is 20 students per year.
Admission Procedure: Like other National Law Universities, Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University also grants admission to its Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses on the basis of CLAT score. Candidates will be required to appear for CLAT exam, the invitation for admission will be given on the basis of the performance in the National level exam.
