The exam pattern refers to the information related to the examination like the mode of exam, sections of the exam, number of questions, marks allotted to each question, etc. The WBJEEB has recently announced that the WBJEE 2018 is going to be conducted on  22nd April 2018 i.e. Sunday. The application form for the exam has been released online on 19th December 2017. The last date to fill the application form is 19th January 2018. Also, the last dates to download the confirmation page are from 26th January 2018 to 28th January 2018. Check Eligibility For WBJEE Exam

  • WBJEE 2018 will be conducted offline in the pen and paper mode (OMR based)
  • the entire question paper will consist 155 questions of 200 marks.
  • There will be multiple choice questions.
  • Questions will be based on 3 subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Maths.
  • 1 mark will be given for every correct answer in Category 1 and 2 marks will be allotted for each correct response in Category 2 and 3.
  • 1/4th mark will be deducted for each incorrect response in Category I and II. There is no negative marking for Category 3.

Candidates are required to appear for 2 papers for WBJEE 2018. The first one is Paper 1 with only mathematics as the subject. Paper 2 consists of Physics and chemistry combined. Candidates appearing for both the papers and who qualify the exam will be eligible for admission to the courses like engineering, technology, pharmacy and architecture in all the institutes.

Candidates who opt for paper 2 only and qualify the exam with a rank, will be eligible for admission to only the pharmacy courses except in Jadavpur University.

Questions for WBJEE 2018 will be based on the syllabus given in the article WBJEE 2018 syllabus and preparation tips.

There will be multiple type questions, each with 4 options. There will be 3 categories of questions in each subject. The marking scheme and number of questions in each subject are given below.

  • In category 1, only one answer is correct.
  • In category 2 only one answer is correct.
  • In Category 3, one or more answer options are correct.

Mode of Answering

  1. Candidates have to answer the questions on the OMR sheets. Therefore it is important to mark the options correctly.
  2. Any kind of marking like filling the bubble incompletely, filling with pencil, cross-check, tick mark, dot mark etc, may lead to wrong/partial reading of the answer.
  3. Response marking cannot be changed or modified, so candidates should be sure of which answer to mark.

WBJEE 2018 Marking Scheme

The category wise marking for all the categories is given below:

Category 1:

  • Only 1 option out of all 4 will be correct
  • The correct response will fetch 1 marks.
  • The incorrect response will yield -1/4 (25% negative) marks.
  • For any combination of response with more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield -1/4 (25% negative) marks.
  • Not attempting the question will get you zero marks.

Category 2:

  • Only 1 option out of all 4 will be correct
  • The correct response will yield 2 marks.
  • The incorrect response will yield -1/2 (25% negative) marks.
  • For any combination of response with more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield -1/2 (25% negative) marks.
  • Not attempting the question will get you zero marks.

Category 3:

  • One or more options may be correct.
  • Only all the correct answers will fetch you 2 marks.
  • Any combination of correct and wrong response will be treated as incorrect and will get you zero marks.
  • For partially correct response, marks awarded will be 2 x (no. of correct options marked + total no. of correct options).
