Candidates who are going to appear in WBJEE 2018 must make sure that they conform to all the eligibility criteria. Application forms of WBJEE 2018 should be filled only if the candidates fit in all the eligibility criteria. The general eligibility criteria to appear for the exam are as follows:

  • Citizenship – Applicant must be a citizen of India.
  • Age Criteria – The lower age limit is 17 years as on 31.12.2018 meaning that a candidate should have been born on or before 31.12.2001. There is no upper age limit. However, for admission to the degree level Marine Engineering Course, the lower age limit is 17 years as on 31.12.2018 and the upper age limit is 25 Years as on 31.12.2018.
  • Academic Qualifications
    • For Engineering Courses
      • Candidate must have passed the Qualifying Examination with Physics and Mathematics along with any one of Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Computer Science / Computer Application as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks (both theory and practical) in all the three subjects.
      • Candidates must have obtained at least 45% marks in the above three subjects taken together(40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category e.g. ST, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD).
      • Must have passed English in the 10+2 examination with at least 30% marks.
      • The Board of the Qualifying Examination must be recognized by the Central Government or State Government.
    • For Pharmacy Courses
      • Candidate must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Chemistry along with any one of Mathematics/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Computer Science/ Computer Application as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks (both theory and practical) in all the three subjects.
      • Candidates must have obtained at least 45% marks in the above three subjects taken together(40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category e.g. ST, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD).
      • Must have passed English in the 10+2 examination with at least 30% marks.
      • The Board of the Qualifying Examination must be recognized by the Central Government or State Government.
  • Domicile Criteria
    • There are no particular Domicile criteria that are required to appear in the WBJEE-2018. However, the West Bengal Domicile requirement is applicable for admission to any Government Engineering, Technology, Pharmacy Colleges of the State as well as for admission to any reserved category of seats in respect of any course in any of the enlisted University/University Department as well as in any Engineering / Technology / Pharmacy College of the State.
    • The West Bengal Domicile requirement is also applicable for any seat under the TFW (Tuition Fee Waiver) Scheme.
    • The candidate needs to download the required proforma as per the details and keep the certificate ready to be produced during counselling, admission etc.
    • If the certificate is found to be invalid, the candidate will lose the opportunity of admission in institutes and courses.

(Criteria to be treated as a domicile – candidates who are living in West Bengal for 10 years as on 31.12.2018 or whose parents are residents of West Bengal will be treated as the domicile of West Bengal.)

Apart from the eligibility criteria set by WBJEEB, there are institute specific criteria set by respective institutes. Candidates will then have to fulfill all these criteria along with the general criteria mentioned above if they want to secure a seat in that specific institute.

Institute Specific Eligibility Criteria

University of Calcutta

  • Candidate must pass 10+2 with physics, chemistry and maths/biology/biotechnology as compulsory subjects with at least 60% marks( 50% for reserved category students – ST, SC, OBC-A, OBC-B) with at least 30% marks in English.
  • For all available Courses except Jute & Fiber Technology- candidate must pass 10+2 with physics, chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with at least 60% (55% for Reserve Category students e.g. ST, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD) with at least 30% marks in English.
  • For the course Jute and Fiber Technology –

candidate must pass 10+2 with physics, chemistry and maths/biology/biotechnology as compulsory subjects with at least 60% marks( 50% for reserved category students – st, sc, obc-a, obc-b) with at least 30% marks in English.

Jadavpur University (Faculty of Engineering & Technology)

  • Candidate must pass 10+2 with physics, chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with at least 60% (45% for Reserve Category students e.g. ST, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD) with at least 30% marks in English.
  • Additional requirement for the 5-year degree course in architecture – candidates must qualify in NATA ( national aptitude test in architecture) or in paper 2 of JEE Main 2018.

West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences B. Tech (Dairy Technology)

  • For all available Courses except Jute & Fiber Technology- candidate must pass 10+2 with physics, chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks in all the three subjects.
  • Candidates must have obtained 50% marks in physics, chemistry, mathematics and English taken together (40% for reserved category).

Neotia University

  • B. Tech courses in Computer Sc & Engg and Robotic Engg –

candidates must Pass 10+2 Examination with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/Computer Science as compulsory subjects with at least 60% marks in the above three subjects taken together.

  • B. Tech courses in other branches –

candidates must pass 10+2 or equivalent Examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with at least 60% marks in the above three subjects taken together.

  • B. Tech course in Marine Engineering –

candidates must Pass 10+2 or equivalent Examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with at least 60% marks in the above three subjects taken together and at least 50% marks in English.

Course Specific Eligibility Criteria

Degree course in Marine engineering 

  • Candidates must pass 10+2 Examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education from a recognized Council/Board in a regular class mode with 60% marks in physics, chemistry, and mathematics together, with individual pass marks in each of these subjects.
  • Minimum 50% marks in English in either 10th standard or in 10+2 standard.

Five-year degree course in Architecture

  • candidates must obtain a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in qualifying examination or equivalent with mathematics as the subject in the examination.
  • Candidates must also qualify NATA or paper 2 of JEE Mains 2018.
  • these requirements are applicable for the five-year degree course in Architecture in any of the participating Institutions except the Jadavpur University, the criteria of which has been given above.

It is important to note that WBJEEB does not verify the documents or the information provided by the candidate during the application process. It does not check the eligibility of a candidate and provides admit card to all. The verification is done only at the time of counselling and admission procedure.

Note: The candidates appearing for their final year exam can sit for WBJEE 2018 but their seat allotment will be canceled if they fail the qualifying examination with the minimum required eligibility criteria.
