UGC NET 2018 Application procedure began on 6th March 2018 and the Examination is scheduled on 8th July 2018. National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted by Central Board of Secondary education (CBSE) on behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC) for determining the eligibility of Indian Nationals for the post of Assistant Professor only, or Jointly for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor.

NET is now held once in a year in 84 subjects at 91 selected cities of examination across India.The examination shall consist of three papers to be attempted in a single day. The award for JRF and eligibility for Assistant Professor jointly or Eligibility for Assistant professor only shall be dependent on the performance of the candidate in all the three papers of NET.

Important Update:

CBSE opened the UGC NET July 2018 Application Form correction window on 25th April 2018 and today i.e. 1st May 2018 is the last date of the availability of the correction window. The Application Procedure of UGC NET July 2018 ended on 12th April 2018 and the fee had to be submitted till 13th April 2018.

The UGC NET 2018 is going to be held on 8th July 2018. Application forms were available from 6th March 2018. The examination pattern has been changed. There will now be 2 papers only for 300 marks in total. The Age limit for JRF for General Category has been increased to 30 years.

Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) Offered by UGC

JRF is a fellowship offered by UGC for eligible candidates pursuing their M.Phil/PhD from universities/IITs/institutes. It shall be offered from the date of declaration of NET or from the date of Joining the programme whichever is later. Candidates who are not pursuing M.Phil/PhD yet must get enrolled within two years from the offer of JRF to avail the scholarship.

Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit for applying for eligibility for Assistant Professor.

UGC NET 2018 Application Form

CBSE has opened the correction form window for UGC NET July 2018 from today i.e. 25th April 2018 and the required changes can be made till 1st may 2018. The UGC NET 2018 Application Form was available online only. To fill the online application  the following steps had to be followed:

  • Visit the website https://cbsenet.nic.in and click on the link “Apply for UGC NET 2018”.
  • On the new page that appears you shall see some important instructions. Click on the Tab “Proceed to Apply Online” below.
  • Fill the application form. You shall be required to furnish the following information:
    1. Exam related details: Post applied for, Exam Centre etc.
    2. Personal Details
    3. Education Qualifications
    4. Mailing Address
    5. Aadhaar Number (necessary to apply)
    6. Password Generation
    7. You shall be notified on the mobile number and e-mail ID you provided on registration.
    8. Upload scanned copies of your photograph and signature in the following format and sizes:
  • Photograph 4-40 kb 3.5 cm (width) x 4.5 cm (height) JPG
    Signature 4- 30 kb 3.5 cm (width) x 1.5 cm (height) JPG
    • Pay the application fees. The application fee can be paid through:
      1. credit/debit card at the payment gateway.
      2. e-challan: generate the e-challan and print it out and pay the fee at any branch of Syndicate/Canara/ICICI Bank.
    • The category wise application fees are as follows:
Category General OBC (non-creamy layer) ST/SC/PwD
Examination Fee Rs. 1000/- Rs. 500/- Rs. 250/-

Eligibility Criteria For UGC NET 2018

The Eligibility conditions for UGC NET 2018 are stated below. Please check them before proceeding to apply.

  • Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognised by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science &Applications, Electronic Science etc.are eligible for this Test.

Relaxation: The Other Backward Classes(OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer/Scheduled Caste(SC)/Scheduled Tribe(ST)/ persons with disability(PwD) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.

  • Candidates who are appearing in the Postgraduate (PG) degree final examination or have appeared but results are awaited may also apply for the test.

However for NET to be valid (in case they qualify), they must have passed the PG degree within two years from the declaration of NET with the minimum percentage of marks mentioned above.

  • Candidates with a PhD degree who have completed their Master’s degree before 19th September 1991 shall have a relaxation of 5% in the aggregate marks for eligibility.
  • Candidates are advised to appear for NET in the subject they pursued in PG. However, if their subjects are not listed they may go for a related subject.
  • Candidates having post-graduate diploma/certificate awarded by Indian University/ Institute or foreign degree/diploma/certificate awarded by the foreign University/institute should ascertain the equivalence of their qualification with Master’s degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.

Age Limit and Relaxation

JRF: The maximum age limit for being eligible for JRF is 30 as on 1.11.2018.

  • Relaxation:
  1. A relaxation of 5 years is applicable for OBC (non-creamy layer), ST/SC/PwD and women candidates.
  2. Relaxation for candidates having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of PG degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years.
  3. Relaxation of 3 years for candidates with a LLB degree.

Note: The relaxation on age shall not exceed 5 years.

Exam Pattern And Syllabus For UGC NET 2018

The test shall consist of Three papers to be attempted in three sessions in a single date. The exam pattern for the three exams are described in the table below:

Note: There is no negative marking on the test.

The contents of the three papers are described below:

  • Paper I: This paper shall be common to all the candidates. It is commonly designed to test the following aspects of the candidates:
    1. Teaching Aptitude
    2. Research Aptitude
    3. Reasoning ability
    4. Comprehension
    5. Divergent thinking
    6. General awareness of environment and Indian Polity.
  • Paper II: This paper shall be based on the subject opted for by the candidate. It shall have 100 questions each carrying 2 marks.
Note: All the questions shall be objective type in nature with each question having Four options as answers. Only one option shall be the correct answer.

UGC NET 2018 Admit Card

The UGC NET 2018 Admit card is a necessary document to appear in the UGC NET examination. It shall be available online 2 weeks prior to the date of the examination.

The Admit card shall contain details of the examination centre that has been assigned to the candidate. No candidate shall be allowed to appear for the examination at a centre other than the one allotted to them.

Please go through the instructions mentioned in the admission card and follow them strictly. You shall be required to carry a photo ID proof too along with the UGC NET 2018 Admit Card on the day of the exam.

  2. Click on the link “UGC NET 2018 Admit Card”
  3. Enter your Registration number and date of Birth
  4. Download and print out the admit card.

Answer Keys For UGC NET 2018

To ensure that there is ultimate transparency in the conduct of the exam, UGC releases the NET 2018 answer keys as well as the scanned copies of the OMR sheets of the candidates. The answer key can be downloaded in the following steps:

  1. visit the website https://cbsenet.nic.in
  2. Click on the link ‘View-Challenge Answer Key and Recorded Response on OMR Sheet’ as seen on the screen.
  3. Enter the Application Number and Password and click on log in. Your personal details shall appear.
  4. Click the link ‘View Answer Keys’ to get the official UGC NET Answer Key.

Challenging the Answer Key and Captured Response

In case the candidates are not satisfied with the answer keys, he/she can challenge the answer by paying an amount of Rs.1000/- per question. If the challenge is found valid, the money shall be refunded to the respective credit/debit card.

In a similar way, the candidate can also challenge the captured Response of his/her OMR sheet by paying the same amount. If found correct, the money shall be refunded.

Results For UGC NET 2018

Criteria for declaration of Results

The procedure of declaration of eligibility for Assistant Professor and award of JRF shall include the following steps:

Step I: The candidate must hold a minimum aggregate in the three papers to be considered for JRF or Assistant Professor as follows:

General 40% in all the three papers
OBC (Non-creamy layer)/PwD/SC/ST 35% in all the three papers

Step II: On passing the criteria mentioned in Step I, subject-wise and category-wise merit lists will be prepared based on the aggregate in the three papers.

Step III: The number of slots for eligibility for NET Assistant Professor shall be 6% of all the candidates who appeared for the three papers in a particular subject.

Step IV: The number of slots for the award of JRF shall be decided amongst the candidates qualified for NET in step III. The following formula shall be applied for deciding the slots:

  • No. of slots for JRF =  (No. of candidates who have opted for JRF and are qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor in that subject × No. of slots available under General (UR) category) ÷ Total No. of General (UR) candidates who have opted for JRF and are qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor

Note: The same formula shall be applicable separately for all OBC/ST/SC categories and all subjects.

How to view the Results of UGC NET 2018

The UGC NET 2018 Results can be viewed in the following steps on declaration:

  1. Visit the website https://cbsenet.nic.in
  2. Click on the link “Results of NET JUNE 2018
  3. On the page that appears, enter your Application Number, Roll Number for NET and Date of Birth.
  4. Click on SUBMIT.
